Do You Like Things More Than People?

Not talking about being materialistic here... but there are times I prefer things over people. Things (excluding money!!! ) like the internet, TV shows, movies, comics, food, art etc rather than being around some friends/family. Like when I was younger, I'd prefer to watch a cartoon /anime episode over playing with a cousin. Hey the show wouldn't be replayed while we can play anytime we wanted. Wouldn't want to miss the show, right? A more recent example would be me liking someone's comic books more than the person who owns it. Sorry, not sorry. Now looking at people as things, that is a different matter altogether. It's something that shouldn't be done. Maybe i'll write about that but it's kind of risky. Anyway, when/what are the times you prefer things over people?

certain things over certain people but generally I prefer company. I wouldn't miss a party just for something on TV for instance.

That would be a rather sad state of affairs. But I admit I worry that some younger people are so addicted to technology that they prefer it to interacting with people.

@arthurchappell For me it would depend what kind of party. Am not much of a party goer. I used to be a bookworm but I don't get to read books anymore. Mostly I go online nowadays.

@TheHorse Well we didn't have much technology back when I was a kid. Brick game and Family Computer and the computers at the time were the highest form of technology/gadget back then.

@crazyhorseladycx Well I guess it depends where in the city you get to live too. :) It's not overly polluted with smog here so it doesn't bother me at all.

Oh yeah! I like that too! If only I lived in the countryside. I prefer the city so I don't get to interact much with nature. I do appreciate the city greens whenever I can and go to parks when I am able to.

depends on the people - there are friends I cherish more than things and people I retreat from to go online but even on here it's readers rather than keyboards that matter

I'm such a loner, I mainly prefer to be alone than being with other people. People, as a rule, tend to aggravate me, but a daytime outing occasionally is great. Plus, I am in school (for Alternative Medicine) so that alone time is greatly needed!

@Pattitude Thanks. That's a very good description. As a psychologist, I'm sensitive to the psychological factors (like anxiety, which I think is prevalent today) that can underlie physical symptoms.

How is alternative medicine different from regular medicine? I hope alternative medicine practitioners have better bedside manners than your average doctor these days.

@TheHorse The main difference is in the treatment. Regular physicians, or as they are called 'allopathic physicians' only treat the symptoms. Alternative Medicine practitioners whether they be homeopathic, naturopathic (which is my goal), or doctors of Chinese medicine, look at the whole picture, the whole body, the underlying condition. Allopathic physicians only treat the symptom (which is often the body's way of dealing with it, and is an automatic response to let us know something is wrong), but they do not treat the underlying condition, the main culprit causing the symptom. So they get rid of the symptom, but the causative factor is still there. I hope I explained that well enough :)

It all depends on the situation, there are times you need time alone so you can concentrate on what you are doing but there are times you want to be with people to enjoy their company.

Because I like people I am here interacting. In the real world however regrettably I do not find people who share my interests.

True, that's the hardest. I also don't find a lot of people I have common interests with. How lonely people are eh?

I love many things over many people. when I am enjoying my iced coffee, I can keep the world waiting. When I am enjoying my food, I dont care what is happening at the next chair.

I am included a person who love staying in front of my laptop than talking about the unnecessary thing with others. I feel enjoy writing, reading and browsing something that I want to know.

It's fun doing those things than being with loud obnoxious people who know nothing but gossip right?

@owstalaga I agree with you, reading, writing and sharing about good things for life is better than talking about nothing with loud obnoxious people. So, I love staying longer and give more time to my love friends here.

Sometime I prefer practicing on a musical instrument or working on my vintage loudspeakers to hanging out with people. But usually, I like doing things with people. I just don't like large crowds, unless I'm at a baseball game.

I definitely prefer things over people. I love TV shows, movies and watching trailers for new movies and TV shows. My sister was talking to me the other day and the TV was on. A trailer comes on for SuperGirl that premieres this Monday and I couldn't help but drown out what she was saying just so I could get a glimpse at the commercial. My sister was furious that I wasn't paying attention to her. I couldn't help it. It's my passion, I guess.

@crewgirl Haha, you could have told her to shush for a while watching the commercial while she was talking. Maybe she would understand that you were busy watching and wait until it was finished. But then again, my cousin got annoyed with me at some point back when we were kids when she realized I preferred the TV more than playing with her.

As an introvert I relate to this. I mean I enjoy being with close friends and (some) family members, but most of the time I'd rather be on the computer doing whatever I feel like doing at that time.

As a kid we had dogs, but I didn't like how they would get too close when I got older. Now I prefer cats over dogs, but maybe it depends on the dog breed. If it's the small and quiet ones and not the rowdy ones I'm used to I can get used to dogs again.

@owstalaga I don't like little dogs, they bark too much and the only time I got bit was by a small dog. I like bigger dogs, my dog is 70 pounds.
