Did Adele Just Release the Best Breakup Song EVER?

Many of you may have heard of Adele and her newly released single, "Hello," that seems to be breaking records left and right mere days after the music video was released last Thursday. Fans are calling the heartbreaking song possibly the greatest breakup song to ever be written, also labeling Adele the "Breakup Queen," which was a title that previously belonged to Taylor Swift. Is it a stretch? Famous celebrities have been posting selfies of themselves crying while listening to the song. It's no doubt that Adele's song is gut-wrenchingly beautiful and is a perfect depiction of how love sometimes persists after the end of a relationship. Adele is first the heartbreaker in the song and then becomes the heartbroken when her former partner ignores her "makeup" calls. Adele's new single currently has over 95 million hits on YouTube and is growing fast. You can view the song here: I want your opinions of the song. Do you think Adele just released the best breakup song EVER? If not, who do you think deserves the title of "Best Breakup Song"?
‘Hello' is taken from the new album, 25, out November 20. http://adele.com Pre-order from iTunes http://smarturl.it/itunes25 Pre-order from Amazon http://sma...

I dont think it is the best break up song ever, but it is certainly one of the best. The woman is so heartfelt..she is so talented and also beautiful. I think that Etta James nailed it though but that is just my preference...

Excellent choice. I've Etta Banana or two in my time, but I've never Etta James.

I'm familiar with the song, but I actually listened more closely to the lyrics this time and I think you're right; She nails it. Etta James' song is so relatable and honestly reflects what the world would be like if you lost someone you loved wholeheartedly. However, I don't know if I'd rather be blind than see someone I love leave me. I'm an artist and my sight is very important to me!

Yikes. Left me pretty emotionally flat. Can't compete with Richard Thompson's Beeswing, Warren Zevon's Empty Handed Heart, Vince Gill's When I Call Your Name, or the Rankin Family's Fair and Tender Ladies.

@crewgirl Thanks for taking the time to check them out! "Thrown down diamonds in the sand," to me, is metaphor for taking something beautiful, and enduring, and casting it aside.

@FourWalls I love the lyrics to Beeswing. I love the story of a girl who was just too wild and couldn't commit and I think it's a very relatable breakup song. "Empty Handed Heart" has touching lyrics but I can't figure out what "Then I've thrown diamonds in the sand" means. Vince Gill's song is beautiful and I think it's my favorite out of what you mentioned. It's like, they still have love for this person even though they broke up with them through a note (classy). I'd be playing Harry Nillson's "You're Breaking My Heart" after THAT one. Thanks for your suggestions.

I can't really pick one I love both Taylor Swift and Adele and i think they shouldn't be compared since their songs are very different I have seen Adele's Hello and it was really good.. as expected people posting crying selfies are insane though

@crewgirl I prefer Taylor Swift. I particularly like Wildest Dreams and in fact most songs on her 1989 album. Top Banana!

@Orson_Kart I prefer Taylor as well. Not only is she a brilliant song writer, she's very interesting as well. I just watched this acoutic performance of "Out of the Woods" at the Grammy museum. Absolutely beautiful! Unfortunately, the video was taken down for copyright infringement or something like that.

I'm a huge fan of both Taylor Swift and Adele. I've seen Taylor Swift's "Blank Space" video probably about 20 times. Adele's "Hello" did not manage to make me cry because I have yet to find a serious relationship, but I'm sure it would if I did. Especially if I were listening to it as I was being dumped. Thanks for your opinion!

It depends on the perspective of the person in the relationship. I think Hank Williams' "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" is the best I've ever heard. Someone with another perspective would say Warren Zevon's "Accidentally Like a Martyr" is the best break-up song, while someone else might consider Harry Nilsson's "You're Breaking My Heart" to be the best.

@FourWalls Interesting that you mention a different Zevon song than I did in my comment. Empty Handed Heart is the one that always draws tears from The Horse.

That's very true because no two breakups are exactly the same. I don't think I've heard the songs you listed but I will definitely check them out and offer my opinion. Thanks for your opinion!

Okay, so I just listened to the songs and read the lyrics. "I'm so Lonesome I could Cry" is such a depressing song, so yes, I think it belongs on a best breakup list. I have a hard time understanding "Accidentally like a Martyr" but it is beautifully sung. Harry Nilsson's "You're Breaking My Heart" is hilarious and I'd probably play that A LOT after a bad breakup. Thanks for your suggestions.

For me Jim Reeves did it too way back during my teenage years - Roses are Red. And you particularly must be either liking it or it is reviving memories - whether it is good for you or not cannot say.

I just listened to the song and read the lyrics becasue I wasn't familiar with it. I think it's a very good breakup song and I love how it tells a little story of the relationship leading up to its end. It's one of the nicer breakup songs, I must say. There's no throwing things or burning clothes. It sends a good message that a person still loves his/her ex and wishes them all the best after the end of a relationship. Thanks for introducing me to the song!

Never heard this song before until you suggested it. It's very quirky. I read the lyrics and I really enjoyed it and it made me chuckle. It conveys the idea that no matter how mature of a person you are, when dumped, your juvenile side lashes out. Thanks for sharing!
