Prefer to take Generic medicines

Three days before i went to medical shop for purchase medicines. I purchased 4 medicines for 15 days which costs is 2000 INR, which is very costly. Yesterday i was surprised to know that if i purchased that medicines as a generic medicines than it cost should not more than 200 INR.
After that i asked to my friend why Generic medicines is so economical, Is generic medicines is different?? He answered me that what's the drug available in costly medicines that same drug available in generic medicines. The generic medicines is so economic because in that medicines company's profit margin is very less and government is also supporting to generic medicines.
After listening this i thought why we are not using Generic medicines or why Dr.'s are not prescribing this medicines instead of costly??

I take generic pills. My generic pills were a little costly, but recently a new company makes them so they are way cheaper now.

What i heard about generic medicine that is cheaper than other tablets..i hope what you had purchased that was costly company in generic medicines.
