Turned out Great and Delicious

Yesterday I decided to try something I had never tried before. My daughter loves Baklava and I had always bought them, and you can only buy them during Christmas and Thanksgiving. So I decided to make them. I found me a Greek recipe and there weren't that many incredients and seemed very simple to make. They turned out delicious, she loved them. It made a big platter full, and she took a whole lot to her office and everybody there liked them also, and wanted me to make mre. But that will ahve to be after all these birthday parties I am planning this weekend. But I think I will make them for them and my sweet daughter, (kind of adopted daughter) she loves them, so I have to just make her some, too. Have you ever had Baklava? It is a Greek and Lewis candy, and so simple. And so sweet and so delicious.

@jstory07 Judy, are we allowed to send recipes in here? I have one that is simple and short, and not long at all. If we are allowed.

I grew up with it since my father is Greek and sadly passed on, but it was fun going to family festivals and eating all the food that was so different than my mom's side of the family..

I don't think I've ever tried it, although I was really tempted by a platter I saw at the grocery store a few weeks ago. It's great to hear that yours turned out so well. Maybe I'll get adventurous and add that to the list of things to make when the kids are out of school for the holidays.

@marlina (5059), I can undersand that, we all are different, and I know a few at the office said they were too sweet for them, and too sticky. I can eat one or two and that is about it until the next time .

I've not heard baklava called a Greek and Lewis candy. I found it hard and time consuming to make but yes, tasty! Its the fiddling with those fragile puff pastry sheets that I find troublesome. Honey and walnuts- yum. I saw one in a catalog that had raspberry filling. I've only had the dripping with honey and walnuts kind.

Those sheets are almost impossible to work with aren't they?

@sallypup (844), Nuts and cinnamon is what I put in the center, or between the Philo dough, with the butter of course, and thesyrup I poured over the top after baking was honey, butter, water and sugar, vanilla extract.

@tuttiharris My Mom comes to mind when I eat baklava. She remembers her Mom making apple strudel- the pastry made by hand!! That flaky phyllo dough hand made and stretched. Amazing.

I do enjoy a good piece of baklava too, we have a restaurant not too far from where we live, that is owned by a Greek family. They make that for the menu and it is homemade from scratch, wow, so delicious. My husband doesn't really care for it so I only get it when we eat out there, if I've saved enough room for dessert.

@Juliaacv (1383), We have a place here (a church) a Jewish church that has these bake sales ever so often and I love going over there buying the things they make, but they don't have them often enough. Bless you sweet friend.

@tuttiharris You are right, the trick is to keep the Philo dough moist.

No, it wasn't hard at all, but thought it was until I looked at the recipe. Just got to keep that Philo dough moist, and covered. Love to you my friend, thank you.

@Marilynda1225 (1632), Yes, they are, they will make great Christmas presents also. And I think I will have some on the dessert table at Thanksgiving. It is so hard to believe this time of year is here already. But I love it. ((hugs)) to you my friend.
