How much rest do you get ?

There is a new survey being started by the Wellcome Foundation which is trying to find out what we mean by "rest" and how much of it we all get. It is not sleep, though rest may turn into sleep. They are hoping that this will be the biggest global survey on the topic ever done. So please have your say. Sometimes rest is considered as idleness, but at other times it is considered a good thing for people. If you take the survey you will get immediate feedback on how your resting compares with other people. You can also add restful things that have been missed on the survey. Find the survey at RestTest.org. How do you rest? Is it just a physical thing or does it involve mental relaxation? What do you find restful?

I thinknk it must be mental rather than physical. Some people rest by playing games, etc. I may go take the test later but I do not have the time right now.

I'm retired. I have enough time to rest if I feel like it. I may have a look at the test, too.

In physics we learnt that change of work is rest. (lol) For me apart from sleeping, strolling in my garden is indeed relaxing and therefore I could say I am resting.

I think anything that is peaceful to us is what we could call restful.

I rest by having a good sleep but most times sitting or walking around my garden is enough to give me a good rest already

@Auntylou right! It is restful and therapeutic. I can stay in my garden all day long without getting bored.

Yes , gardening was often cited as restful. As long as not too much digging is involved!

I will have a look at the test, but most of the time those kind of tests are only useful to those who create them.

I accidentally nap in the evening in front of the TV - I don't sleep well at night maybe because I nap! I avoid taking surveys - they usually tell me something I don't like to hear!

I suppose I rest mostly by reading a book although I'm not sure if that counts.

I think that anything you find restful counts. There is no actual definition of rest and it means different things to different people. I guess a dyslexic would not find reading restful!

I wait until I get tired before I go to sleep.

I tend to take a couple of mental relaxation rests during the day. It helps me to think better and get on with the job more efficiently.

I don't like to take tests and surveys. I do rest by coming here in between my other activities.

It is not a test and I found it quite interesting. Posting is interesting but I wouldn't say exactly restful as I type slowly and could do with a better chair/desk combination

If there's one thing I hate it's form filling, so I won't be doing that survey. I regard being on the computer as resting.

If I get my 7-8 hours of sleep at night without disturbance, I don't want to rest a lot during the day, there are so many things to learn and do. I feel relaxed when I am busy. but it is changing by environmental and other conditions.

I did the survey and waiting for my results. I normally don't get as much time to relax as I usually do. I am working on this and taking more time to relax at home.

I get a good night's sleep most days. When I am tired I close my eyes and rest where ever I am.

I think rest means not working after working! Not necessarily watching your favorite program/show on TV or sleeping soundly on the couch for hours.

A few years ago I had some problem with my legs (I can't remember what now) and I called the NHS number for advice. The nurse asked me 'When you sit down in the evening, do you put your feet up?' I was stumped - what did she mean, WHEN I sit down? I told her I sat down to eat our evening meal, and then of course I lay down when I went t sleep, did that count?

It's very important for everyone to sleep.Because as human being we all need to have a good rest and I often sleep for eight hours every day. How about you?
