Slippery Fall Leaves and Potholes

Grove Street Sandwich, MA

I decided to enjoy the fall colors before all of the leaves come off the trees. I was walking down this street and almost fell, because I was daydreaming. Wet leaves can be very slippery. Leaves can also hide potholes, which happened to me. I stumbled, but didn't fall to the ground. I was glad no one saw my clumsiness. There were a lot of cars on the road so I had to walk along the side with the leaves. Normally the kid in me comes out and I kick the leaves all over the place.

I couldn't help but smile when reading your post. That sounds just like me :) I tripped on a sock waking up yesterday. Fall is quite beautiful but I am looking forward to snow.

Yep, I could trip on a sock too, however I am dreading snow.

I've been out raking leaves in the garden. It feels great once you've finished.

I use the leaves as mulch, so I've been pushing them under plants. It is very good exercise.

@NeldaHoxie What I find treacherous is that when the leaves pile up and they seem to be dry. Then you shuffle through and they are about ankle deep next thing you know you discover that underneath there are wet and slippery leaves hiding.

@NeldaHoxie Maybe you can tell me whether it's OK to put some of them into my compost bins?

Yes wet leaves are not only drab but very very slippery I know friend. I am glad you did not fall and hurt yourself. I too love to kick up the leaves in the fall.

I don't walk on our road - not because of potholes (which we don't have any of) or wet leaves, but because of John Deere tractors!! Glad you didn't get hurt, you don't need more medical problems.

@NeldaHoxie Plus the fact it's a country road and the idiots go 60 mph and I've complained but not much they can do - can't have a sheriff sitting there 24/7 with radar.

So the tractors just go right over you? No, I get that. Some roads are just not meant to be walked on.

Glad that you did not fall. You are right about having to pay attention where you step with those leaves and potholes.

All of the leaves here are slippery today, because it's raining (yay)!

That is good that you did not fall all the way down. I trip over my own feet all the time.

Sometimes I can get quite a crick in my back when I catch myself from falling.Luckily that didn't happen today.

It was hot, too hot, here today. Most of the leaves are still on the trees, we went for a long walk in the woods, it looked like summer.

We have had a very warm autumn too. Today was the first day that it felt like fall.
