Day 39 – God’s Protection 2 Kings 19:8-37 Throughout our lives the one thing we concern ourselves with most is protection, whether it’s self-protection or the protection of our families. Our goal is to protect ourselves and families from all harm. Companies and schools also go out of their way to protect the people who work for them and the children they teach. Security entrances are the only access anyone has to workplaces and schools. Sennacherib, king of Assyria sent his agent, Rabshakeh against Judah to intimidate them into becoming slaves and going to Assyria to live. He showed how the nations around them could not stand against Assyria. Yet in Hezekiah’s prayer before God we see how he understood that the other countries could not stand against Assyria because their gods were no gods but wood and stone, the works of men’s hands, but God was the God, and no one could come against Him. God showed His people He would protect them from all harm from those who intimidated them by killing in one night 185,000 people, and when Sennacherib returned home, his own sons killed him in the temple of his god. God will not allow anyone to blaspheme Him, and will always fight on the side of His people. When it comes to intimidation, we need to remember to seek God first not last and He will come to our aid and defeat our enemies. God is our defense and all the protection we need against our enemies. Let’s pray: Father, help me to seek You first when Satan comes against me with intimidation tactics to tempt me to trust in someone other than You. You are all the protection I need against Satan. Help me remember You are my refuge in times of trouble. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Copyright © 8 November 2015 by Valerie Jean Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay
