Are your parents still alive?

My mum died just last year , though it seems much longer. She was in her eighties and died suddenly of a heart attack having been increasingly frail for some time. She was lucky in this as she had always said that she would not like to suffer a lengthy illness. I was glad that I had spent several days with her just the week before and we had had a lovely time together. My dad had died two years previously, again after a short illness and I was glad that we all got to see him before he passed and that he and my husband had patched up their differences. If you are still lucky enough to have your parents, please let them know you love them and try to spend some time with them if you can. You never know but this may be the last time you have together.

You only get the one mum and dad, and you are right - you should cherish them. Mine are both long gone.

Both my parents are still around only they are not that healthy recently. Since my sisters are getting more busy with their careers, i had to give a helping hands in taking care of them. We should always appreciate the times that we are able to spend with our parents.

@birju danak It may not seem very important now, but a good idea for late and for your children (if you have any now or later when you have them) is to write down the stories your parent tell you of their younger days. Times change so quickly

Thank you for this important reminder. We often take our parents for granted ... until they're gone.

My parents are in another country and I don't regularly get to talk to them. Maybe it's time for me to give them a call.

I think we don't full appreciate our parents until we are full grown adults or have children of our own. We take them for granted and sometimes we come to realize when its too late.

I still have both of my parents, but lost my grandma just after Easter this year, she was the last of my grandparents alive. She was ill for a while and it was difficult watching her get worse, though I wasn't able to actually visit her much. My kids and I all had colds and didn't want to expose her to them in case she would have gotten better.

This is a touchy subject for me. My mother was terribly ill every two or three years. It was always something serious. It was a hard life. The end was allowed to come while she was in the hospital for her eighth brain surgery. It was a relief. My father stayed around for two more years, then joined her.

@msiduri I remember very little of my childhood. Good times came at school.

Yeah my parents are still alive and I love them so much. I'm currently taking care of my mother because she is ill and I don't want anything to happen to her because I treasure her very much. And of course to my father as well. I want them to live longer so I can be with them for a longer period of time.

Sorry for your loss... I know how painful can be. I lost my dad a few years ago, and I couldn't even say farewell. I live in another country so... Impossible. I still have my mom, she´s 88! and I keep in touch every week, sometimes daily basis. Because I'm happy to be alive and that´s because of her, and also just like you said:"You never know but this may be the last time you have together." Best wishes to you!

My father passed away in 1984 and my mother followed him in 1986. My father was 70 and my mother was 66. I still think of them often and it is not something you ever forget.

I'm sorry to hear about your parents. At least, they didn't have long illnesses or anything like that. Both my parents are still alive. I do see my mom quite a bit, but it's not the same with my dad.

Hello Janet. I am sorry to read of the loss of your beloved parents. I only have my dear Mum now she is 87 yrs. She seems in good health at this time and please God it will stay that way. I lost my Dad around 20 yrs ago. I do try to spend time with my Mum when I can. I deeply regret not seeing my Dad so much, but circumstances would not permit.

Lovely post - really sorry for your loss but I'm sure they are both very proud of you. I haven't spoken with my father for almost 10 years now, he refuses to due to his religion - I struggle to think how I will feel when I find out he has passed away.
