Day 42 – Reputation 2 Kings 21:1-18 A while ago there was a television show called This Is Your Life. Unbeknownst to the person the show featured, several people from the person’s life would talk about the person and tell all the wonderful things they observed about him or her. What would be said about your life today? Would the people you know applaud your actions, or would they discredit you and tell all the awful things you’ve done all your life? Of course we would want to hear how good we were and not how bad. For Manasseh that was not the case. He was the son of Hezekiah and he was evil. He was twelve years old when he began to reign and brought back the high places and idols his father had gotten rid of. His actions were abominable, filling Jerusalem with blood and causing more sin than the nations God dispossessed when Israel entered the Promised Land. As Christians our actions are to be above reproach. Satan looks for every little thing he can use against us to discredit us before the Father. He wants us to sink in the mire of sin and not rise above our former life, declaring we are children of God because we accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord. However, there is one thing Satan always forgets when he brings accusations against us, Jesus. Jesus goes before the Father and shows Him how we accepted Him as Savior and Lord and how He redeemed us by His blood. We are no longer covered in sin, but in robes of righteousness. Manasseh never repented of his ways, but went to his grave with the blood of the nations on his hands. God told His people He would bring judgment against Manasseh and Judah because of Manasseh’s sin. When you sin you cause others to follow in your footsteps so that when you die, you will be judged for the depth of your sin and how it affected those around you. Don’t let your sin cause others to stumble and fall. Repent and allow the blood of Jesus to cover you and erase all the wrong you’ve done so you can stand before the Father, not in the rags of sin, but in robes of righteousness. Let’s pray: Father, help me be a person of integrity who does not cause others to stumble and fall, falling prey to Satan, but someone who leads people to the cross of Jesus Christ because my life is founded in You. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Copyright © 11 November 2015 by Valerie Jean Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay

I think we all come to that point sooner or later wondering what people think about us. I've thought about it a time or two.
