Do you trust texts?

In this day and age, many people rely on text messages to communicate. Our two lads much prefer texting to talking on the phone, whereas I prefer the phone. You can't see body language, but can pick up a lot from the way things are said. Just seeing words leaves them more open to misinterpretation. The other problem I have with texting is you can't be sure the person you contact has received the message. Although I'm on the same network as my husband, my phone doesn't always show texts he's sent. For instance, he was travelling home long distance two days ago, and sent a message around 4pm with an update on where he was. I still haven't had that message. It's floating about somewhere in the airwaves. Fortunately, I'm not a worrier, but can see how missed messages could cause problems. Do you trust texts?

I'm not crazy about texts, but it's the only way to communicate with my grown children! They seldom answer their phones and they never check voice mail. But if you use your microphone to say aloud your message for a text, be really careful that you push the "stop recording" button when you're through before you hit "send." My phone "overheard" my conversation and typed out a message that was absolutely not what I said! Thank goodness I didn't hit send by mistake. It was to my supervisor!

@kizzyB It was awful! We couldn't figure out how the phone typed a sentence that I would NEVER say. I thought at first my phone was possesed!

For me it depends with the situation. Some i prefer to talk and others texts are good to go

I ask people to ring if it's really important, to make sure the message has got through.

@kizzyB Exactly. There are times when one can message an urgent thing but the person may not read the text right away and so when urgent better make a call

@marlina It still takes me ages to type on the phone screen, so I tend to avoid it.

I much prefer texting and do that more often than calling. I think it is okay as long as you know the person well that you are texting, as there are less chances of them getting the message wrong or interpreting it the wrong way.

@gudheart true, I only text immediate family, and even then predictive text can mess things up.

Sometimes you just need to hear a person's voice. Kids can hide behind a text, but we moms can usually tell if something is wrong when we hear their voices.

We find them hit and miss too. Sometimes texts don't get through till days later.

My husband's text is still missing in action. He keeps showing me his phone and saying, "Look, I did send it!"

@JudyEv absolutely, that's my problem with texts. You can't assume they've been read.

@kizzyB It gives you a false sense of security thinking the person at the other end has the message or information when in fact they don't.

If I know the person really really well then a text is okay but if I don't then I would rather hear the persons voice. As you said things can be taken the wrong way through texting and that causes problems.

@LovingMyBabies When you're talking to someone, you can clarify things right away instead of overthinking what they mean in a text.

I do text, but sometimes I just want to talk on the phone. It is like pulling teeth to get 2 of my sisters to use the phone.

When I was in high school, I love texting with my friends. Now, I only send messages to my father, brother and sister.
