Six a.m. I am awakened by the sound of booming thunder. I usually enjoy the rain, even if it heavy, but this time it's different. It sounds as if someone is dumping a bucket of nails onto a hard floor. I press my pillow against either side of my ears and do my best to ignore it. I know the rain only bothers me when there's too much on my mind. I close my eyes and begin to inhale a deep breath and slowly let it out. I always see something similar in meditation or yoga videos, so why not give it a try? I'll admit it did work a bit. My body became more relaxed and I began to care less about the sky dropping such hard rain on my window. Eventually my eyes grew heavy and the real world disappeared. I'll tell you right now, I wished that I would've just stayed up. Do you ever have those days were you have a free morning,so you decide to just go back to sleep? That was me every Saturday. A no school day was an I'm not getting about of bed until I'm hungry day. It was usually a peaceful sleep, but this time something was waiting for me in the world of closed eyes. Something my grandmother once warned me about. I wish I had believed her. In my dream I was alone in my living room. It was dark and in a corner was an even darker figure. Even in my dream I could feel the evil that came from this being. I stood still in a fear that I had never felt in the waking world. My grandmother and my mother alike had told me about dreams like this. When I was a child they nick named it sleepy time letters. They had said that receiving messages, especially in dreams was a gift passed down in our family.
