I lost 24 pounds, but it took me two years. Sure that was the healthy way to do it, but do you know what I got as a prize? I got to gain it all back because I had to have my thyroid removed and the medicine stopped working. Now I am trying to lose it again. It really is horrid to have to do something you hate TWICE so soon together and at the holidays. How much weight are you trying to lose or lost and have you gained it back?

I have been trying to lose weight for a few years now. I did really good and lost about 40 pounds over the course of several months, but then hit a plateau. I gained a few pounds back, but haven't lost anything for over 6 months. I know I need to get off my butt and exercise more, but it's hard and discouraging when you hit that plateau. I still need to lose a lot, more than the 40 I already lost, but the motivation has been lacking.

Well you did great losing the 40 pounds. If you have been off the diet awhile, maybe you can start doing what you did before. I know what you mean about the motivation leaving you once you hit the plateau. Once I gained the weight back from my medication not working, I stopped exercising because what was the point. It took two years to lose and literally less than two days to gain it back.

@fawkes62 I had my thyroid taken out so I am on medication. If the medicine is at the wrong dose, which it was, I gain weight. It is awful. Gaining that much weight in that time period I knew it was the medicine, but it sucked the enthusiasm for exercising right out of me. It's hard to keep weight off when you use any diet. It has to be a lifestyle change. It was funny, I chose to exercise instead of giving up my chocolate. lol

@mommaj I had done a major change in what I ate, eating much more healthy than I was and then slowly went back to much of what I was eating before. I've kept some of the better for me foods and don't eat as many bad for me foods, but could do a lot better than I am right now. It's definitely discouraging to gain it back, and to gain it back that fast had to be even more difficult. Hopefully you will be able to lose it again.

I cut calories, eat protein, and weight lift. No I do not body build, I just tone. Trust me I have been on so many diets and exercise programs I could probably write you a book! I was just wondering if anyone else was having these problems.

@Rationalwriter Thanks. It's not as easy when you are on thyroid medicine.

I have to slim down around 10 pounds. The idea is to cut on fat and carbs. It is not that I am too overweighed, but that I was diagnosed with resistance to insulin. IT will have to be done only with diet and some exercise.

You don't need to slim down... You just need to change your lifestyle. Less carbs, more protein, more water, and exercise to keep the sugar readings steady. If you follow the pyramid as far as the amount of carbs go, you should be fine. My ex-husband did that and he lost the extra weight and his sugar came down.

I have lost one hundred pounds going on 15 months now and the key this time to keeping it off was a lifestyle change. This is what you must do if you wish to maintain a certain weight.

Congratulations on your weight loss. Definitely a lifestyle change. I never understood how people could go on diets and still maintain their weight after they stopped the diet. I actually believe those are the people that gain more weight back than they lost.

@Berardesco I never did diets. I figured I was big enough and if I couldn't commit I didn't see the point to even try. I actually like "weightlifting". I have a gym but the weights are moved by wires and pulleys so I am not doing free weight. I did this religiously for about 8 yrs. Then I had my thyroid taken out. The meds got mixed up and I gained everything I had lost in two days. That was scary because I had never gained weight that fast. After about a year I still haven't been able to get myself together enough to exercise regularly. I am working on it though.

@mommaj Yes I have done that before to every 21/2 years I would lose 50 pounds like clock work and then put it all back on again and then some. Not this time though.

You need to be motivated. Cut down in your daily calorie intake will definitely help.

That sounds too much like a diet and not enough of a lifestyle change for me. I like to enjoy some food, like sweets. I try not to overindulge though.
