It is finally getting cooler weather here in Texas and I am needing some comfort food! I really love soup year around, but really enjoy on a cold winter day! Some of my favorites are Beef Vegetable Soup, JalapeƱo Potato Soup, Tortilla soup, Chicken Noodle Soup and my list goes on and on. I only enjoy good old homemade soup not the canned store bought! What are some of your favorites?

It is so good when you can use all the fresh vegetables out of your garden for your soup! Yummy, yummy!

I don't like soups. They fill the stomach but have no substance.

@Margielynn I do prepare vegetable soup which is a full meal. What I don't like are the thin, broth liquid ones.

My daughter makes a great butternut squash soup and it's my favorite this time of year. My second is pea soup then lentil. Of course I can't forget the old standby tomato soup with grilled cheese.

@Margielynn I thought I hated parsnip until I had my mum's soup and now I love them. They are quite sweet a bit like a cross between a sweet potato and a butternut squash. The soup is just a fried onion, lots of shredded parsnip (use a Kenwood Chef or other food processor) and boil up with a lot of stock and a couple of dried red chillies. Delish!

I have never eaten parsnip! What does it taste like? I would love to try it sometime! I was thinking they would taste like a turnip? But just guessing! Maybe you can help me out!

I'm not a huge soup lover, but my husband is. His favorites, that I make for him are tortellini soup and leek soup the best.

@Margielynn Yes, leek do resemble onions, but they need to be carefully cleaned as they can have a lot of sand in them, so they are a little more work to prepare for a soup.

I also started making peanut butter soup last year. It's good, it is mostly chicken broth, with a little peanut butter, which gives it a nutty taste!

What a comforting warm hearting discussion . I think my favorite soup would be a really rich mushroom soup, or a common bean soup with fenugreek aside.

@margielynnhghh fenugreek is the name of the plant which from him you make "hilba". well, I will give you the definition of it from Wikipedia: "seed kernels are ground and mixed with water they greatly expand, to which hot spices, turmeric and lemon juice are added to produce a frothy relish eaten with a sop". It is called "hilba" and it is usually common in the Jewish-Yemen cousin in Israel, But not only. It is eaten near the soup and it is good for blood sugar levels. Your discussion just made me want to eat some soup, so I'm going to make now a pea soup..
