It was bound to happen sooner or later

My youngest gets on the bus to school everyday before I go to work and almost everyday this year she has been late getting out the door. They are supposed to be at the bus stop 5 minutes before the scheduled pick up time just in case the bus is early. She usually gets there with just a few minutes to spare instead of the full 5 minutes, but has always made it on time. Until today. I was giving her her last hug goodbye, she always wants at least two, and I heard what sounded like the bus. I looked up and out the door and sure enough, I saw the end of the bus as it drove by our house. As it drives by after picking up the kids, there was no way for her to run out the door and still make it. It was 2 minutes early today, so it wasn't just her dawdling that made her miss it, but that definitely didn't help her. I was torn between laughing and being upset, but since she was already upset, I laughed. I've known all year that she was going to miss it eventually, and I was right. Laughing didn't really help her mood, but at least she didn't get upset enough to cry, though she seemed close to tears for a little bit. Hopefully she will be a little faster getting ready tomorrow.

I bet that your little one will want to be earlier at the bus stop from now on.

Unfortunately, she won't. Today she was still late, but not late enough to miss it.

Maybe this taught her an important lesson and she will be on time from now on.

@fawkes62 She sounds like she is not a morning person at all. I feel for her as I'm not either.

It would be nice if it did, but she still struggled to get ready on time today. She was late getting out the door today too, but not as late so she still got there before the bus.

@fawkes62 Oh. Because my school service back then used to ring our bell if I am not outside :)

The bus drivers wait only if they see the kids coming. Since she wasn't outside yet when the bus got there, the driver didn't wait. The driver probably assumed that she wasn't going to school that day.

Like you said, it's bound to happen. At least she knows she should be quicker next time.

She knows she should be, but she tends to take too long to get ready.

She did manage to get out the door earlier today than yesterday, but still later than she is supposed to leave.

I'll bet she will want to be there earlier from now on and I think laughing was the best thing to do for you daughter.

It seems like we miss the bus for some reason or another at least once a week. Sometimes all we can do is laugh about it. Have you tried getting things ready the night before? Laying out clothes, making sure homework is in the backpack and the backpack and jacket are together on the hook by the door has kind of helped us streamline the process of getting out the door. Kind of. It doesn't really help when I sleep through my alarm like I did this morning...

I've tried getting her up earlier and also getting her clothes picked out the night before, but it doesn't really help. I usually get her backpack ready while she is getting dressed. The biggest problem is she just likes to take her time to eat and get dressed each morning. The teacher said she is usually the last on the bus after school too.

Our bus drivers wait if they see the child coming, but if they aren't even outside they don't wait.

It happens, and will probably happen again. Did you end up driving her or letting her have the day off?

I just drove her to school. We live close enough that I got her to school on time. I won't let her miss school just for missing the bus. The other two I might since I'm already at work when they leave for the bus.

Sometimes it's what a person needs to make them realize they need to be a little quicker.

It works for some people, but not her. She was still late getting out the door today, but thankfully early enough to get on the bus.
