It was bound to happen sooner or later

My youngest gets on the bus to school everyday before I go to work and almost everyday this year she has been late getting out the door. They are supposed to be at the bus stop 5 minutes before the scheduled pick up time just in case the bus is early. She usually gets there with just a few minutes to spare instead of the full 5 minutes, but has always made it on time. Until today.
I was giving her her last hug goodbye, she always wants at least two, and I heard what sounded like the bus. I looked up and out the door and sure enough, I saw the end of the bus as it drove by our house. As it drives by after picking up the kids, there was no way for her to run out the door and still make it. It was 2 minutes early today, so it wasn't just her dawdling that made her miss it, but that definitely didn't help her.
I was torn between laughing and being upset, but since she was already upset, I laughed. I've known all year that she was going to miss it eventually, and I was right. Laughing didn't really help her mood, but at least she didn't get upset enough to cry, though she seemed close to tears for a little bit. Hopefully she will be a little faster getting ready tomorrow.

Like you said, it's bound to happen. At least she knows she should be quicker next time.

I'll bet she will want to be there earlier from now on and I think laughing was the best thing to do for you daughter.

It seems like we miss the bus for some reason or another at least once a week. Sometimes all we can do is laugh about it.
Have you tried getting things ready the night before? Laying out clothes, making sure homework is in the backpack and the backpack and jacket are together on the hook by the door has kind of helped us streamline the process of getting out the door. Kind of. It doesn't really help when I sleep through my alarm like I did this morning...

I've tried getting her up earlier and also getting her clothes picked out the night before, but it doesn't really help. I usually get her backpack ready while she is getting dressed. The biggest problem is she just likes to take her time to eat and get dressed each morning. The teacher said she is usually the last on the bus after school too.
