Psalm 1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. 4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. 5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish. (KJV) Psalms is one of my favorite books in the Bible. Of course I have 66 favorite books, but this one is at the top of my list. There is so much encouragement to be found here. We see the struggles the psalmist goes through, not just David to whom most of the psalms is attributed, as this one is, but all the different psalmists. They poured their hearts and souls out letting us all know they were human just like us, had troubles just like us, and learned to rely on and trust in God for all those hard times in their lives and not just the hard times, but times of rejoicing as well. David opens up this psalm with a blessing. He says a man is blessed who walks in the counsel of righteous men, and sits with faithful men. He says his delight is in God's law and in meditating on it day and night. As you continue with this psalm you see that delighting in God's law is equated with being like a fruitful tree, not one that is dead and dying. It is ungodly men who whither and die and stand before God's judgment with no hope for eternal life, but face an eternity of torment away from God. David's conclusion is the concrete knowledge that God knows His own and the way they chose to walk in righteousness and keep themselves pure before Him. Thank you for reading. The Book of Psalms is also one of my favorites this is why I am taking time to memorize some chapters of this book. Psalms 1 is one of those that I already memorized. It is a wonderful reminder that I should delight in God's word more than any other.
