You Will Never Be My Best Friend

We were out at brunch this morning after church with our daughter, son in law and their youngest son Jack who is 4. I told him I was going to be his best friend. He looked at me and said Grandma you will never be my best friend. I looked at him and pretended I was crying. He looked visibly upset and said Grandma, Grady is my best friend. I started to laugh and told him it's okay grandma has a best friend too. But I like you!! I love the totally honesty you get from little children and I guess he let me know that I can't be a best friend, I think being his best grandma is going to have to do!!

Kids don't pull any punches and always tell it like it is. How cute that you got to be the best grandma even if you couldn't be his best friend

such a lovely conversation for you and your grandson - something to embarrass him with when he hits 18 or 20 no doubt

They really are so cute at that age. And sometimes they take things you say literally. When my oldest grandson was about 3 or 4, his baby brother came down with a stomach virus. I was talking about how he had a stomach bug and my oldest grandson thought there was a bug in his brother's stomach.

Yes you're right, it is all very literal and I think he thought I wanted to take Grady's place. My bad!! lol

Hi! Nice meeting you again here. Your grandson seems to be a smart young boy. Kids, as unlike us adults are so forthright and honest. We have a lot to learn from them.
