Some Really Good News

I can use some of that about now, what about you?
I had an appointment with a couple of editors this afternoon. We talked about what to do with the books already published, and decided that editing isn't necessary. They both said I did very well with the story and I'm a good writer. So we're not going to do anything regarding editing, however they are going to help me get it marketed with their imprint on the book.
The fantastic news is it won't cost me an arm and a leg. They are affordable and won't break my bank.
We talked copyright and book covers, so the three published books will go through a second edition. We'll be starting with the first one - Scarred and follow it up with the other two several months later each. Putting out one book every few months.
What I'm going to do is go through them again and look for any typos, as I know there are a few in each book, not serious, but I want to clear those up.
What I need to do is contact the publishing house for Scarred and make certain I can keep the title and find out about the book cover. If I can't keep the book cover, then I have another picture we can use that is similar to the present book cover.
The book covers for the other two books will get a makeover, which I'm looking forward to very much.
They will be e-mailing me a contract in the next few days.
I'm looking forward to getting seen in the marketplace and selling books.
Since editing does cost a lot, 2 cents a word, and my word count is well over 150K, it could cost over $1500 just for editing. I will do the editing myself for my books.
So that's my good news - what's yours?

Lucky you! I wish I can afford editing. Self-editing is so daunting. I did enter a full ms edit giveaway this week and hope I'm the lucky one. My ms is about 106 K right now. The good news for me is that I've finished my partial R&R and send it out to an agent this afternoon, hoping it gets upgraded to a full.

What are those books about. That must be a lot of work and where do you get the time. Happy that all is going well with them.

I write Christian fiction. The series I'm working on is Historical set in the 1700s. Each of the four books follows a generation of the same family. I'm currently working on the fourth novel. When I'm not blogging, I'm writing. I'm retired so my time is my own. Though even when I was working I was always writing when I was home - you could say I don't have a life since I'm always on the computer.

@allknowing Thank you. I work on my manuscripts as much as I can. Right now with the computer problems I'm having, everything is on hold.

Congratulations on getting yourself a good deal there. It does cost a lot to hire the editing out. I know you must be thrilled with that news. I am so happy for you.

They said there were a few punctuation problems, but nothing glaring, so not necessary. They were overall pleased with the books which made me happy. They told me the developmental and content edit was totally unnecessary as I did a very good job with the story. So I'm excited to get moving ahead once again.

The books are already published. They're going through a second edition and a face lift - new covers.

As an editor I need to tell you that editing your own work is not a good idea. You need another set of eyes. Do you have a friend who could help you? Congratulations though that is great news.

@just4him I think that is a good idea, I always see what I meant to say not what actually said in my own pieces. Happy Thanksgiving. I am sorry about your friend but I can't imagine letting my husband tell me who my friends can be.

Not anymore at the moment. I had a friend who read my books but her husband took a great disliking to me and ended any kind of association between us. What I could do is ask someone in the Writer's Guild to read my last one for me when I'm ready.

@BelleStarr I know, it was a real blow to me, and I heard through a mutual friend that she would still like to be friends but her husband would have a fit.

That really is exciting news Valerie. Well done. At the moment I'm preparing an extended extract for consideration by an editor I've spoken to , she'll then decide whether we're the right mix together. It's important we're both on the same track when it comes to social history.

Who published your books the first time? This is great news that you've able to get them reprinted so easily and inexpensively. I've done some editing for 4RV, but I'm taking time off as my husband is supposed to be finishing deleting many words on his book, but hasn't finished it yet. If you need another pair of eyes, I might be able to help some this winter. I've worked for the other place for royalties, and not gotten anything as yet, so I don't charge the norm.

Thank you for your offer. WestBow Press published Scarred, and I published through CreateSpace for Manifest Destiny and Stowaway. All self-published. I do need to call WestBow to find out about the title and cover. I really don't want to change the title going into a second edition. I'll do all that after the holidays. I still need to finish writing the fourth and that will be a lot of work and a ton more research to keep things accurate and authentic. I'm going to ask someone from my writer's group to read.

I'm happy for you, especially since you can save a lot of money by doing the editing yourself.
