Becoming More Sensitive to Smells

I have always been pretty sensitive to smells, and can usually identify what smells are. At the office, one of the workers there called me into the boss's office and told me to sniff. So I did. She asked me what I smelled. I told her, "Mold." Our boss had an intractable sinus infection which eventually had to be surgically addressed. No doubt it came from the mold in our old building. I think it was remedied, and it undoubtedly came from a leaky roof. I'm out of the loop, so no one informed me as to how it got remedied. So, I was proud that I could help solve the problem. Others in the office also smelled it, so I was in good company. A couple of days ago I went to my tenant's house and stood outside waiting. I could smell cigarette smoke. I didn't even think they smoked. Today I was in the cafeteria at the hospital where I work (they were having a free Thanksgiving meal for staff). An employee walked by with his scrubs on, and when he passed, his cologne almost knocked me down. And I was sitting, so that would have been something. I wanted to go remind him that wearing scents around patients was never a good idea, as so many have allergies. I don't, but so many others do. It seems I smell my way around my world. But it's getting more pronounced. I changed my laundry detergent to scentless. But last night I put on a t-shirt to sleep in, and I hated how it smelled. Perfumed and smelling like my last laundry detergent, or a lady of the night. I was hoping it wouldn't put my cat off from sleeping with me. Are you sensitive to smells?

My husband is overly sensitive about smells! He drives me crazy sometimes, he will be sniffing the air and smelling stuff and I can't smell anything!

I know. I am always sniffing something, and people around me think I'm nuts.

Like you, I have always been unusually sensitive to smells. Sometimes I think I'm part dog, even though I'm a horse.

@ThankyouLord Yes, but it can be creepy. I can tell when people have certain illnesses.

It's a good thing, I think. It adds a lot of dimension to everyday life.

That's why I love libraries. There is a smell in there that just reeks of knowledge.

I am the opposite of you: I lost my sense of smell a few years ago.

I am sorry you can't smell well, but I hope you can still taste food.

Most people aren't, I don't think. Unless it's the smell of donuts coming out of Dunkin's.

I have a slightly sensitivity to smells but its not a good thing all the time. Being able to smell things that others can't sometimes the smells aren't always pleasant.
