There is an initiative in Kent at the moment to show the kids where their food comes from, they are being taken to farms and being shown crops growing in the fields and cows, sheep, pigs and chicken. Quite a few kids seem to think their food comes from a supermarket or local shop. They are shown the crops being planted, grown and in some cases processed or frozen. They are being taken to lives stock farms and shown how the animals are reared, they are having it explained where different meats come from including what animals the meat actually comes from. With the emphasis on maths, English and Science they have forgotten the fundamentals of life.

That's a part of why I do gardening/farming with my kid clients. I want them to know where their food comes from. And I want them to know that "hard work" is actually fun, and yields a harvest.

Wow , what a good thing to do. So much education gets ignored. That's the problem these days.

If some kids knew what hard work it was to grow food they may not waste so much of it.

Kids should know where their food comes from. Every year when my son came back from hunting. He showed his children the deers that he had shoot and they took them to the plant where they were cut into the different types of meats that he wanted.

Well at least they have that knowledge and can understand food does not originate in the supermarket.
