Random Word Post – talent

I find a random word by flipping through a dictionary or using a random word generator and write a quick – often silly – little post about it. # This word isn’t so random. I’m slogging through The Aeneid and I came to a part where they were talking about having talents of gold, silver, and ivory. I knew talents were an ancient measuring amount, but I didn’t know how much exactly. After a trip to Wikipedia, I see that there were different kinds of talents, but the ones Virgil knew were 32.3 kilograms (71 lb). Given current values (as best as I can figure) a talent of gold would be a little over a million dollars, a talent of silver would be $15,000, and I have no idea what a talent of ivory would be.
