Do you often chat with your neighbors

Guangzhou, China

When I was young,I often played with friends nearby.and sometimes ate at their home.when someone need to build a new house,the neighbors will help you without pay anything but only a dinner with a cup of wine.But now ,l can hardly recognize whom is my neighbor.the doors nearby are usually closed,people always lock themselves in the small box .they like make friends on the internet.i don't think this is good way.

I'm sad to hear it's this way everywhere. I thought it was a Northern California thing.

Along with the development of science and Technology,people share more time on the internet,we can do almost everything on it. When we come back after work ,we have few time to knock the neighbor 's door and chat with them,maybe you're considered to be the bad guys.

i just rent a room from a mate but he gets on with all the neighbours and as we live in a cul-de-sac it is more quiet than most streets. we all watch out for one another and its actually quite a nice quiet place to live.

I do not know my neighbors very well. We will just say hello whenever we meet and that is all. Today everybody comes home and will not talk much with the neighbors. We are almost like strangers to each other.

I live in a barangay, that is what we call the smallest unit of our country. All in the neighborhood know each other. When I go out to hear mass or go to my parent's house, I have to greet everybody whom I meet. But I don't have time to have a chat with them anymore but during my childhood, I used to play with a friend whether at their house or at our house. Lately there are lots of new residents around because of the construction of the Iglesia ni Kristo Church near our house. I guess their workers came from all over the country. So many of them that they rented the houses in the neighborhood. Some even constructed little buildings opposite their church. But I still chat with my friends on the internet. These are my personal friends who are already living miles away.

I remember knowing our neighbors when I was growing up. We were friends with their children and everyone knew everybody. It isn't that way anymore.

@bluebirdfly I guess now we are all so busy with work and our lives that we don't have time to interact with our neighbors.

Yes,this is true.Even I have experienced this transition in the last 10 years.Earlier neighbours were more friendly and helpful but due to modern lifestyle and technology people have enclosed themselves within their homes.Now,hardly there is any interaction within neighbours.Earlier children used to play with other children from the neighbourhood but now the scenario has changed and people have more virtual friends than real ones.Apart from technology and internet,the rise in multistorey buildings has also contributed to the separation between negighbours since earlier there were single floor houses and people mostly know their neighbours well as they could see them and interact with them more often.But now since we have more of the high rise buildings ,people generally interact less with their neighbours.

Yes, you have raised a very valid point. In the age of internet, people are losing social contacts. They are more interested in virtual world rather than talking and interacting with someone face to face. Families are drifting apart, family members could be seen holding mobile phones/laptops/I-pads in their hands and not talking to each other.

My neighbors are not chatty. and also they don't give good looks to me. So I try to stay away from any form of chat. i also spend tie talking to janitor and liftman and also apartment keeper. that's how I spent time that.

You are right, this is not a good life, but it is becoming this way all over the world. People are scared and they stay inside their houses.

Well,it depends. One of my neighbours is a young couple,I can hardly see them once a week,they go to work early in the moring and get home late in the night,they've been living here for more than 1 year but I still don't know their family name . Another neighbour has two kids who are about the same age as my kids,and those kids play a lot time together in their home or mine;

I have a few neighbors I have talked to, but there are a few I have never hardly talked to and one of them, lives right across the road. I tried to talk to this neighbor once and she never sought me out since and we have lived here nearly 25 years.

I love talking to my neighbors in the spring! Walking dogs, gardening, just enjoying the weather. Some of my neighbors are awesome! We still text from time to time but I'm not isolated because if internet and textn, I'm isolated because of other things. People aren't the same as in the 50s 60s 70s.
