Why It's important to set goals?

I've been thinking of alot of things the past few days... Some are just thoughts & some are goals... But why is It important to set goals? Does this will help you to be come more productive or Does setting goals shows how will you become someday?

It is good to set goals that are achievable.
That means after setting up goal, you can plan for the achieving of the goal.
This working plan can mean starting 5 discussion threads, make 20 comments in an hour in Mylot.
At least you know it is achievable, and that will achieve your goal of making a certain amount every month.
