Merry Christmas vs Happy Holiday

I hope this puts an end to the argument about whether or not to say Merry Christmas or Happy Holiday OK so lately I’ve been hearing and seeing a lot about how stores and coffee places (Starbucks) are changing their little I don’t know what you would actually call it, uh the not a goodbye but a see you later kinda thing….anyway point is instead of saying Merry Christmas to their customers or writing it on their cups they are now being required to say Happy Holidays and write that. I mean honestly is there a difference, I mean ok so Christmas is a holiday that people are constantly debating on the origins of, one bunch of people are saying it’s a christian holiday, others are saying it’s originally a pagan holiday and frankly I’m getting really sick of hearing it or seeing it. I mean Christmas is supposed to just be a day where you have a nice little Christmas tree or a big one that’s up to you and your family,a day where you can spend time with your family, watching the snow fall or playing in the snow. I know I enjoy an annual snowball fight just like the next guy lol. Sitting in front of a fireplace, if you have one, going over grandma’s house baking cookies and cupcakes or getting fresh homemade cookies and cupcakes from grandma when she comes over your house. Singing Christmas carols…..that maybe was a bad one seeing as how there are some specifically christian songs as Christmas carols, but anyway I’m sure you get my point The holiday or Christmas should be about just getting together with family, friends, a new boyfriend or girlfriend or maybe even a new spouse for those newlyweds out there and just having fun, spending time together and laughing, eating, drinking that nasty eggnog that people seem to like so damn much. Why I don’t know, eeck….you shouldn’t be bringing in religion to a day that supposed to be spent like that, just enjoy being happy either with your family, friends, boyfriend, girlfriend or new husband or wife. Even if you are alone for the holidays you can still have a good time go out and buy a box of cookies, some…eggnog or hot chocolate is much better yes do that instead of, well you know I’m sure you get how I feel about eggnog by now lol. Where was I?….Right uh, bake some cookies if you’ve never tried it, though please read the instructions and follow them. I do not want to be blamed for you burning down your kitchen. The message here is simply this, When it comes to a day where all you need to do is let yourself be happy do just that, and don’t let things like religion prevent you from doing so. Just bake some cookies (without causing a fire) make some hot cocoa(same thing as hot chocolate) wrap up in your favorite blanket or grandma’s itchy but made with love or bought with love(remember it’s the thought that counts) sweater, watch home alone or whatever Christmasy movie you care to watch and think about nothing else. So I say Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday to all.

Merry Christmas to you too. I say what I say because that is who I am. I expect others to say what they say because that is who they are. Why rarely matters.

Though I am not Christian, I always still prefer to wish others Merry Christmas, as I think it brings joy and peace and it's really Christmas. It's the same when I wish others Happy Deepavali, even though the person is not celebrating this day (and I don't), as it's a festival and we can always share the joy of the special day. I didn't know there are always debate between Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, I just knew about this from mylot lately, I didn't think too much about these. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you!

I say Happy Holidays if I don't know the person (and not everyone may celebrate Christmas so I find it more appropriate). But I do say Merry Christmas, if I know the person celebrates Christmas.
