Sitting Around Doing Nothing

I'm not sure if this is the same worldwide, but here in America we are taught to have a strong work ethic--that we must always be productive. It's just the way America has been since it's founding. However, we tend to think of "work" as something that involves constant production, and if we're not actively doing something or producing something, then we're not technically "working." But if you think about it, more and more of what we call "work" is being taken care of by machines--computers, robots, automation systems, etc. But interestingly, what machines can't do, and probably will never be able to do, is sit around and think of solutions to problems. Machines will most likely never be able to think of new products to build, new markets to conquer, new and age-old problems to solve, or further ways to advance mankind. That's where we come in! Human imagination and brain power will always be needed, and here's the great part that I love--sitting around and doing nothing will be more important than ever in the future! Because that's where our best ideas come from!

@moffittjc Yeah I saw those...although I understand the purpose....I just don't agree with it. I mean in a psychological way. Again, I see the purpose but I feel a huge majority of people will be relying on the doll/s for their only human interaction.

@moffittjc Exactly. I mean everyone is different. Maybe there would be people who would never get bored of it but others would surely be desiring more. Physical stuff is great but there's something much greater with the emotional side of it. Like you said.

Having 'quiet time' is essential for creative thinking in my opinion.

I do my best thinking when I'm sleeping! And I do my best sleeping when I'm driving! {Just kidding!}

@JudyEv I can't ever remember anything I dream about at night! But, during the day, when I'm daydreaming, I can remember just about everything!

@moffittjc Although you speak in jest - mostly - it can be true that we figure out things while we're asleep and wake up with a solution.

Having down time provides time for those creative juices to flow.

Speaking of flow, I really have to go to the bathroom right now, but between being glued to this site, and being too cold to get up, I think I'll just sit hear and not move! But that was probably TMI for you! lol

I wish my work had machines or robots. I have to call people every day to collect on their bills and i usually lose my voice by the end of the day. Sometimes I wish we could record ourselves and just do it that way but no can do

OMG...you're a dreaded bill collector! I would be careful who you mention that to! It's best you keep quiet about what you do for a living! lol

Have you read about the new robots that are supposed to have emotions and even to "think". I am not sure that we will not be fully replaced by machines.

I fully expect we'll wipe ourselves off the planet through global annihilation before that happens!

@moffittjc This is what I hope, but I fear that the machines will do more and more.
