What do you want to do in 2016?

There are a number of things I want to go in 2016. I want to go on 2 short trips to nearby countries. If my finance allows, one long trip and one short trip. I have booked a short cruise in early part of the year, now I am checking the price for the later part of the year. I want to save up $6000 to buy shares for dividend income. This is a priority. If I do not meet this target, I have to forego the second trip. I want to save up $5000 for retirement. I will make a voluntary contribution to the national individual pension scheme. Once the money goes, I will not see the money until many years later. There is no withdrawal as and when we need cash. After budgeting for investment and retirement, and a fixed amount for day to day expenses, I doubt I have enough to go on a long trip. The year end trip is likely to be a short one, unless i get extremely lucky in lottery.

It is hard to do that. I think a better option is to give tuition lessons to children who are weak in certain subjects. If the children live near your house, you can get them to go to your house instead.

If Philippines is your motherland, you will return to it later. You will want to return as a rich and successful person instead of a penniless and ambitious person.

My focus will be on homeschooling, parenting and studying Waldorf education. My son will be grade 1 in 2016, we will start our home school "officially", unlike now the children are just playing all the time, so I will need to prepare for the lessons. As I am trying to apply Waldorf education for our homeschooling, so I'll have to study it as much as I can. I am always learning to be a better parent, and my third child will be born next year, so there will be more for me to learn and do. If possible, I want to buy a piano, as I have always been wanting to learn and practice piano at home.

@scheng1 Thanks for your concern. I understand that, but that will not be my option. Private school fee is too expensive, moreover it's not the education method I like. Even if my children will be home schooled, they will still sit for exams when they are in high school, so that they can enter to college.

I think you can consider letting your children go to private schools as well. The thing about school that you cannot duplicate is the examination atmosphere. It is extremely stressful, and that is a good learning opportunity. Those who cannot manage a tight deadline will have a problem in the workplace. Many of us face every tight deadlines in our work.

That's a very nice plan. I also like traveling. I hope next year we can have a nice travel. Hopefully the world will be much more peaceful as I am still a little worried about the security. I may not go to some countries since I feel it is not safe enough yet. And next year will be an important year for my son. I hope he will go to a good middle school. Of course we shall also try to earn more for the future.

@scheng1 The time will be an important problem. In fact I checked it during the Chinese New Year. The time doesn't match our time. If I will have a cruise trip, it is likely we leave from Hong Kong since it is closer to my city. We need to take a plane to go to Shanghai and Tianjin and it costs more and if there is any delays, it will be a big disaster.

@youless I do not think there are many cruise lines that travel the Japan route in winter. Most of the cruise ships come to Singapore or Australia when China is in winter. It does not make sense to operate a cruise ship in this kind of weather. Perhaps you can plan for May or October.

You can try to take a cruise out to Japan. There are many cruises to Japan that start in Shanghai or Tianjin or Hong Kong. It will be a very different experience.

In 2016, I will focus to support my older daughter passes her elementary school and preparing her for go to junior high school. I also will focus to give extra class for two children which their parents trust me to support them for studying everyday. I also will focus to make extra online money as possible as I can. I hope I can run the planning.

I think you can take in more children, and then teach them as a group. Since you are going to give extra lessons to the two of them, you might as well take in 2 more children, and teach them together.

You are very sensible with your money. So many people don't provide for their retirement.

@jaboUK Yes, you are right. It is $5000 every year. There are some years when I can put in more. I remember a year when I got an extra month of bonus, and I put in nearly $10,000 to the retirement fund. I did not go for long vacation that year, so I managed to have $8000 in investment as well. I still collect dividend from the shares.

@scheng1 That's the way to do it. When you get to retirement age you will definitely reap the benefit, as I am doing.

In 2016 I will focus on getting a job that actually has something to do with the degree I got. I'll also try to save money and maybe look for a place of my own.

Most people do work that has nothing to do with their basic degree. However, you can use the degree as an entry to a job that you likes. I have seen many engineering graduates working in the bank, and equally many business graduates in shipyards. It is a matter of interest and the desire to learn.

You have to plan for the big winning, not just hope for the big winning. I have an excel spreadsheet drawn out with a theoretical win of $2 million dollars. I assume that this 2 million dollars is already in the bank, and I want to spend it wisely. In the end, I have more than 20 items in the spreadsheet, which includes investment, insurance, house, vacation, and relatives.
