Self-actualization needs can be very expensive

Abraham Maslow explained about the hierarchy of needs way back in 1943. Now the concept of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is taught in universities all over the world. Maslow explained about the needs for food, shelter, job security, self-esteem, a home, and finally the need for self-actualization. This need for self-actualization has to do with creativity, realizing potential, and finding the meaning of life. Sometimes when we feel empty, and wasted, that is because we have not fulfilled the self-actualization needs. The problem is that self-actualization needs can be very expensive. A pilgrimage to a place costs money, even though that is a self-actualization need. You will feel part of your life fulfilled. Quitting a job to travel the world or to volunteer in other countries cost money too. However, many people are willing to make the sacrifice to fulfill a dream.

I remember learning Maslow's hierarchy in many of the psychology classes I took. I thought it was interesting that one would be so selfless in order to care for others and how rare it is that one achieves self-actualization.

If self actualization is costly, then risks associated with it is large. You may go broke if something goes wrong.
