Tips on how to get rid of the Christmas carolers

Call me a Grinch or someone with no Christmas spirit but Christmas carollers are annoying. I use to be able to avoid them because I use to live in a condo apartment but I am living in a smaller house at this moment so I am vulnerable from those money hungry Christmas carolers who can't sing. So this are things I did to make sure those Christmas Carolers won't notice my house. 1.Don't have Christmas decorations outside, Chris decorations is a huge caroler magnet, if you have expensive looking decors, the carolers will think you have lots of money and you are so into holiday spirit, so they will sing or dance (Christmas dancers are becoming a trend in my place) 2.Turn off the lights- With the lights off, they will think no one lives in your house. 3. Hang a "beware of dog" sign hang in your gate even if you have no dog or your dog is just a cute pomeranian. Do you entertain carolers and give them money? geez I can't stand them.

Oh no! Why would you want to get rid of the wonderful singing Angels that bring Christmas Cheer to your doorstep?

Many of them can't sing to save their lives. Some of them comes back after few hours after you gave them money in hopes you already forgot about them. Also they ask for donations and they will frown at you if you only give them a penny.

Street caroling is banned in Metro Manila so we have seen a great reduction especially by street children in the Metro in recent years, I had observed that, so it's not that much of a problem here anymore, at least in our area, btw i live in a private subdivision. Your tips are good, we use to do that before to carolers who do not give us prior notice before caroling.

I don't see street carolers anymore but the door to door carolers are still common here. Usually they come in groups. Some of them gives donation envelopes in advance so it means they ask for large amount of donations.

It seemed like this tradition is dying in North American countries.

@CaptAlbertWhisker It tends to be. I remember as a kid some neighbours would come around to sing, but nothing in years.

My Beware of dog sign is really effective. Next year I will wrap yellow tape around my house so they will think there is a crime scene or something. I also consider hanging a pig's head to scare them away. Geez some of them were asking for 200 pesos as donation.

@CaptAlbertWhisker Well, we do have a Beware of Dog sign because we do have a dog in the front.

Are you okay with carolers or are carolers not aggressive in California?

I only entertain those from our church for they do not sing to ask money but to bring the joy of Christmas by singing carols. I also entertain kids of the neighborhood but not the strangers who go from house to house to extract money.

How many of them attacks your house from 21th to 25th of december. Your family seemed to have patience to handle them. I don't entertain them because a lot of them gets abusive. Some of them comes back few hours later after you gave them money and that really annoys me.

I think the #2 is the most effective way to shoo away those carolers who could not carry a tune!

I have never seen Carolers anywhere but the movies. Once for a staff party we had a hay ride through town and we sang Christmas Carols. But no one had to listen any longer than it took us to drive past them. And no one thought to give us money! The ones in the movies only get hot chocolate or cookies.

I miss it when I was young.. and we go for Christmas carols! It was so fun. I don't mind them coming especially if they sing great.. What's not pleasant if the same people keep coming back for another round of carols LOL!

I experienced encounter carolers who came back to my house three times and they think I wont recognize them just because they changed outfits. A lot of them cannot sing at all. So they give me noise pollution instead of Christmas spirit.
