Actually there is a device called Cyclon separator. Its used in factories to filter dust and other dangerous particles from air. The name striked me when I saw you discussion's heading. I presented this device on an exhibition at my school a few years back. Thanks for making me remember my school memories

@chocolatenightingale Yup, I made it with a 2 litre water bottle and small electronic fan which can be placed at the bottom of the bottle. To show that no dust escape from this device you can put some thermocol balls inside the bottle. Try this link to know more.
