Did Storm Frank Cut Our Power?

Well, I'm guessing we have Storm Frank to thank for turning out the lights in our street. Thankfully though, as I'm sure you can guess (as I'm obviously able to type here), our electric power has been restored. The power wasn't really off too long - just over 1 1/2 hours, but long enough for my daughter to comment that she found it weird. I guess these days we just get so used to flicking a switch and the light coming on. I do though wonder what exactly caused our street to lose power and how many tonight will be without power, and possibly for much longer...

It a strong wind here in Plymouth along with all the rain we are having right now. Are you further north?

Yeah, we're much further north - Aberdeenshire, so almost the other end of the UK. Still very windy outside, so hope we don't lose power again, though tbh I can't think of the last time we lost power during a storm, so hopefully wont happen any time soon again.

@Darroch I have a cousin there in Ellon. I love Scotland :) Yeah I hope you don't lose power again once is enough for anyone. So you just have the wind there then and no rain?

@kevin1877uk I don't know Ellon very well as it's over an hour's drive from us, but one of my friend's parents lives in Ellon. It's also raining just now, but more the wind that we can hear in the house. There is a flood warning issued for our village, but thankfully for us not for the street we live in.

I pity the people in the flooded areas. When the water has gone, they'll have to throw all their belongings away.

Yeah, flooding is awful. :( Years ago we were unfortunate to come home to a flood in the house caused by a fault developing in our shower. Takes ages to get everything sorted. Water damage is truly horrible.

I don't know what part of England you are in, but here in East Anglia we haven't had any power cuts, and no real bad weather as yet.

I hope that it stayed nice that year. Hows the weather there in March 2020?

Don't think we'll find out. I did look something up online, which told us when the engineer was attending the fault and when they expected it to be restored. At the point the engineer was attending the fault we did have a very brief blip of power, so presume they tested something then. On the plus side - They did manage to have our power restored almost 1 1/2 hours before when they had estimated it would be.

We were fortunate. Last nights storm did not affect our power.
