War And Peace Doesn't Have That Much Ink

I'm settled in my room in Chicago, on a road trip, watching a college bowl game. One thing I can't help but notice is these kids (some of these players are 18-19 years old!) have countless tattoos on them. Not just "mom," but so many that you can't see what they're supposed to be or what they're saying. Honestly, there isn't as much ink in a copy of War And Peace as there is on some of these guys. Okay, I'm old, but what is it? Do they think it makes them look tough? Is it some fad ("all the NBA players have so many tattoos their blood type is ink so I'll follow along!")? Or what? I don't find them appealing...quite the opposite, actually. I wonder if some "peer pressure" talked them into getting so many tattoos, and if they regret it later.
