Not A Comfortable Bed For Humans !

Some of you know I fish, a lot. We have a boat and are retired and now can spend even more time out fishing. It's such a relaxing way to spend the day. In this one particular lake we like to fish in Central Illinois they have some of the biggest blue gill in the state. And man they are big. They average around 10 inches which for this panfish that is huge. The lake is very heathly and in some areas you can actually see the spawning beds on the bottom of the lake. The bluegill like shallow areas to make their beds. For me seeing them was amazing. It's not something you can usually see but in this lake there are several areas where you can see the beds and the male bluegills who make the beds guarding them awaiting the females arrival. I was pleased to get this photo of the beds. Pretty amazing at least to me.

One thing I miss about New Hampshire is the clear water of the lakes and rivers. Here in eastern NC the rivers are tinted with tannin from all the leaves and up close the water looks much like strong iced tea.

@fishtiger58 You and your husband enjoy many of the same past times as my wife and I - camping, fishing, and hiking.

Minnesota has many lakes and rivers that look like that, I always call them rootbeer lakes.

@DWDavis Yes our favorite things to do, and now we are retired so we are going to be able to travel farther to do these things, see more of the country.

@arthurchappell It's amazing how perfectly round they get them. Also if anything they don't like falls into the bed they immediately remove it.

@celticeagle I will I have plenty to share, over 10,000 photos over the last 5 or 6 years. Had to get an external hard drive, all those photos were slowing my computer down.

@fishtiger58 I am not into fishing. I enjoy paddling my kayak, but I have never had a clear view of any fish environment.

@paigea My son has a two man Kayak and we paddle on the Kankakee River which I live next to. My husband drives us and the Kayak about 6 miles away and we paddle home and carry the boat home. It's a wonderful relaxing experience.

I'm not fond of fishing but I'm curious with the picture you posted. What's with circular shape? Are they small patches or big one?

Wow, that's so kool. Mom used to love to go fishing and I always wondered why she made such a big deal out of the 6" bluegill she caught, you've answered that one for me.

That is an awesome photo. Hubby still fishes and when we were younger and I was pregnant we went fishing all the time in small lakes and ponds, some rivers in Kansas too. I craved fish and enjoyed the physical hiking and fishing back then.

I was pretty darn happy about this shot. We used to hike to fish as well. But my husband gets poison ivy really bad, so we decided on a boat. He hasn't had any poison ivy since.

Pretty amazing how they do that. I couldn't be more pleased to find and photograph this. I made my husband motor all around that lake in our boat to see if we could see more. We did find a couple other spots where you could see the beds.

Mostly we release all the fish we catch. Occasionally we keep a few to eat.
