paragraphs, easy on the eye
United States
January 5, 2016 1:27pm CST
There is one way, a very simple way, you can make your discussion more appealing to more people. It's not rocket science, it's so simple even I can do it. What am I talking about? Paragraphs..... Big blocks of text are not easy on the eye at all. If you take one of your big block of text posts and broke it down into 3-4 sentence paragraphs three things wold happen: 1) It would look better 2) It would be easier on the eyes of your readers 3) It would make people want to read more of your posts There have been times that people who use big blocks of text finally realized that they were turning people away. You want more people to read your discussions and want to come back for more. It's very simple, just use paragraphs. My eyes thank you! Photo: pixabay.com/en/eye-green-eyes-iris-eyelid-149673/

i will admit that I was one of them that didn't break the sentences up, and then finally, I had ralized that if it was hard for me to read, then it had to be hard for others to read too. Now, when I do discussions, I separate the paragraphs out and double space. I will admit it does look better, and is much easier to read. I should have been doing that long ago.

@ivyparkgirl I was replying to Rose's comment, not to someone drowning. You can't compare apples to oranges.

@ivyparkgirl I suppose "it's the thought that counts" doesn't apply in that situation!

@vandana7 Do you mean to do paragraphs in comment? You can....just put a second return. Just like this.

@MALUSE When you leave a message like that does the person respond to it? Just curious.

@AbbyGreenhill I ALWAYS mention this in a comment and add that I haven't read the whole post because of this.

This is a great hing Abby, I do not like the "walls of text". Most of the time I skip long discussions not separated in paragraphs.

@AbbyGreenhill My eyes are not as good as when I was in my 30s, so I prefer to look at paragraphs.

@LadyDuck None of us have eye like we used to, although some people pretend they do, then they walk into walls because they wont' wear glasses.

I agree with you 100%. It is much easier to read and follow small paragraphs than large paragraphs or one giant block of text. And it looks more professional as well. Sometimes it's hard though to figure out how to break up whatever you are writing so it's correct...

Most times paragraphs just sort of fall into place for me, but I did a lot of typing in my working days so I am used to making things look 'right'.

I think spaces in between paragraphs is nice too. Three paragraphs is about all you need and past that it gets time consuming

I don't like real long one, I get bored reading them - unless they really catch my attention...maybe about chocolate!

I usually use paragraphs. But if something is going to be shorter than the photo I attach, then sometimes I don't.

@AbbyGreenhill I'm still thinking about "presentation." If it looks good to me, I leave it. With one post, I did change the title to something more compelling. It seemed to help.

Absolutely. Break up your post, use bullet points, paragraphs and one liners too. It really does work in getting people to read your entire post instead of hitting the "x" on the top right corner.

I do this on my discussions because I know one long post will not get a lot of attention at all. Most people don't have a ton of time on their hands as it is so they don't want to read some huge discussion.
