What do you do when you have ample time to spare?

Do you advance your work so that there is no backlog, or you try your hand in something new? Both ideas are great though, it depends on what you want to excel at. For me, I want to go forward in the line of psychiatry, so I plan to study a few courses online for free. Also study up for the test materials that will come in handy for the MD Entrance tests which I will be giving in the next 5 years. Seats are very less, so better start learning about it now. Plus I like studying about it. For recreation I can think of a lot of things to do. Brush up my writing skills by freelancing at content writing websites, write for blogs and stories. Oh by the way, did I tell you that two of my writings were posted in the college magazine? I was super happy about that! To write good, I need to stock up by reading more books and magazines. The whole writing thing is a bit rusty for me right now, so I have to shake things up. Exams are at an end and lying forward is two months of less strenuous time. Finally there's the group outing at a tourist spot in the first week of February, so we have to get a move on for its preparations. I'm very excited about it, so I would release this newfound excitement in the form of watching some really good movies and spending time with friends. Wow, I really had to say all that out here, because it's been a long time since I've written down anything in mylot. It feels good What do you normally do when this amount of time lies free in front of you? Do you plan ahead, or just flow with the tide of circumstances?

It really depends on the circumstances. If I am feeling good and energized, I would plan ahead and mark things off of my to do list. If I'm not feeling too good, then I would use the free time to rest and relax.

Planning ahead always helps. I'm a little weak at that . And resting up replenishes the energy which then is put to good use.

@ria1606roy I am actually pretty good at planning. I really enjoy it, especially if I am planning a vacation. To me, that is half the fun.

@simone10 yes planning and discussing about what is coming up and how should it be spent is awesome fun in itself! It's like the major festival out here. There's a countdown for the start of Durga Puja in autumn from 5 months before, and planning where to go, what to do, how to hang out is a pleasurable way to spend time. Same when we plan for a vacation or trip months before the actual thing. And then when the time comes, it passes in a blur, then we miss those days a lot!

I never seem to have enough time, am always finishing off projects, tasks, or sports. I also volunteer for like 2-3 hours a week, so yep no such thing as alot of time. When I do rest, I enjoy going to holidays abroad.

You do have a lot on your plate on a daily basis! That's good, being engaged. I always think if I could do some work to keep my mind occupied and at the same time, learn something new. And also, whenever I find a free vacation, I kind of want to go out and travel. Freshens the mind.

If I have an ample of free time in front of me then there are a variety of things I do. I will start reading a new novel, or else start watching a new TV series, clean up my room. I also take some rest which makes me fresh.

A new novel is like starting a new virtual chapter.....good choice! Like you said, a freshening is as necessary as doing something productive. Thanks for responding!

@WriterMukund good long-term measures, then! Recharging the batteries are bound to give positive, if not perfect, effects.

@ria1606roy I feel freshening is also productive since it re-energizes your cells and makes you ready for the future grinds of the life. It makes you tough for the forthcoming challenges. It replenishes the energy which you have exhausted. Hence freshening may not give immediate results but it will have an impact on the further challenges.
