Do You Agree: It is Harder to Give Gifts to Men?

I hear from friends many times that men are harder to find gifts for as compared to women. I agree. Having my dad and 2 brothers while growing up, it is very difficult to find decent gifts for them that will fit my budget. Most of the nice stuff for men are costly. I had no trouble getting my mon and sisters gifts. This sound odd, and even for me just hearing about it. What's your take on this?

My husband is very hard to shop for because he's not into the typical guy things. He hates sports and doesn't have any hobbies he does much... Not easy at all.

Also, they are not too expressive verbally. It is hard to guess and take hints on what they really like. At least my boyfriend likes home baked goods so that is one thing I can keep in mind for him.

I agree with both of you. It's very difficult if they're not verbally expressive. Try to be observant though whenever you go out to shop to see what are the things they spent time checking.

@olivetree27 that's another thing about shopping with men. They go in, take what they need, and leave. That simply doesn't work for me. I must see what other options I have, if there is something available to the store next door, etc. and then I will make my purchase but then, I just simply must go check out other stuff. ??

Depends on the man. My hubby is pretty easy. Anything nerdy with video games will do for him lol.

That is so cool. At least you know what he really likes and appreciates.

I think that too. I always think men usually prefer more practical or useful things. As you said, those things can be more costly. Moreover, those items might last for quite long time, such as wallet, belt, watch, so we can't buy them each for every year. Now, I always prefer to buy a book to give to friends.

@Raine38 But it isn't good all the time, as some people just don't read books.

Books are also good bets, more so if you have an idea of someone's interests. This also gives me a reason to dawdle at bookstores

When you don't live in a man's head you don't want he might like. It is more difficult but not impossible.

@Raine38 .....Yeah, and I think that gifts should be something they wouldn't necessarily buy for themselves.

I guess it is because I find most men that I know a little hard to please, that or they have such expensive tastes.

This is so true! Hahahaha! Aside from men stuff cost more than girls, I really don't know what they like and something that they appreciate. Most of the time, I would go for a wallet because this is something that can be used for a long period of time. I give mostly memorable gifts like figurines to my girl friends and not something that will be thrown or keep in a closet after using for a month or two. But some guys don't appreciate novelty items. Hahaha!

And I guess that's the reason why they are harder to give gifts to, novelty items can be cute and mean something to women but men would be lost on what to do with it.

@olivetree27 yeah, they will never really admit it's they will just say that whatever we give them is going to be fine and highly appreciated. That is nice of the, but sometimes, it is better if we really know if they have a preference.

@Raine38 I know. I love giving my boyfriend stuffed toy as a present and he was keeping all of them but I could see from his face whenever he finds out what my gift is that he's secretly wishing that I would stop giving him stuffed toy. His bed is full of them. Well, if he told me what he wanted in the first place and not telling me, "I'll appreciate anything from you" I would have given him something else.

I always found men to be hard to buy for. Usually they like tools or electronics which are costly

Yep, that's correct. And if I try to get cheap tools, they don't last long.

It is true, but then again ~ my boyfriend is easy to give gifts to! For the holidays, its sort of tradition I get him a new wallet. We've been together for 9 years and I've gotten him 8 wallets so far since we dated. He still has all of them as we speak. (Tommy, Guess, Coach, Michael Kors) For Christmas I got him a Burberry Tie but he has yet to use it! But generally my boyfriend will like clothes or a new leather jacket definitely!

It is nice if you have known the guy for a long time. It is like being able to read their minds, or anticipate what they need.

We don't need your costly gifts. But need your simple, valuable smiles, that is enough Lol
