Now that I am no longer with the shelter, I cannot bring my bags of garbage there. So I usually clean the cages, and put them in smaller walmart plastic bags. So those bags I have been taking with me when I go out, and dump a bag at a time. I need to keep up with it, as I have 6 bags sitting here from cleaning my cages. I cannot afford the fee the dump is asking it would be $40 a month. The town will only let us put out one a week luckily I put my heavy cat litter in it. I only clean my animal cages every 3 -4 weeks because of the bedding I use so it wont be bad.

Is the litter biodegradable? If so that would be great to compost for garden enrichment next spring. Rabbit manure is great for veggies. Are you going to have a garden?

Yes, it is bidegradable but I was caught dumping it behind the fence by the town. So now they keep an eye on it as it is illegal. It's just sw dust, paper, rabbit poop, and hay. Yes, I will be having a garden come the spring. I am just planning on what I will be having in it.

@paigea I would love to know ways of doing this. I don't have much room compared to the amount I produce though.

@ricki_911 perhaps you could learn how to turn it into compost then the city couldn't complain if you were composting in your own yard. interesting @GardenGerty I wouldn't have thought of that.

We pay 14 dollars a month for garbage pick up once a week in front of our house. Don't they have that in Canada, I have heard you talk about getting rid of your garbage before.

The town does pick it up, and you can have 1 bag. But because I live on my friend property basically she gets the bag of garbage. I usually can get rid of say my kitchen/ bathroom garbage in hers as Id on't have much. But when I clean my cages, I can have 1 -4 big black garbage bags.

@ricki_911 One bag, how does that work,. How did they come up with one bag, most households have at least two. Is the one bag rule for a week or what?

@fishtiger58 I am not sure how the town came up with that. I believe they think you will get less garbage but that is not the case. I am renting from my friend and we can still only have 1 garbage bag. Yes, 1 bag a week.

$40 dumping fee! Could you throw trash at your other job?

@ricki_911 Ohh, yes the fee is expensive! How about the gas station? Can you act like you are cleaning your car and toss trash in the trash can? When I pump gas, I grab a bag and fill up all my trash from my car (receipts mainly) and toss it at the gas stations trash can.

@infatuatedbby Yes, I have done that as well. I now have about 4 bags left, and just about to clean a couple litters. But once I get the bulk of it, and a steady routine of changing cages I can then have a routine of tossing it.

I know itisridiculous fee. I have cut back my garbage but now it's basically impossible. No, they have cameras on it and very strict. Why I thought small walmartplastic bags I could have in my car and throwing out grabbing a coffee.

Many shopping streets have additional commercial pickups, ever thought of putting your bags there?

No, I did not. I usually have 1 or 2 black garbage bags of beddig, and litter a month. Unless I do a big clean I can have up to 6. But usually they are spread out enough I can find a way to keep up with disposing them.

Will it be a problem if you get caught putting household garbage in those garbage bins? Here, businesses lock their dumpsters as they don't want to pay the fee for people dumping their house hold garbage. I have done it when I missed getting to the dump in the summer but I was worried I would get caught!

They are the smaller bags and I bring one at a time. All they know is that I had it in my car . If I stop for gas, or for other things. I can see a big garbage bag being an issue, and I know at my work a lot of people dump it.
