Things I do to cheer myself up.

Irish winter is particularly depressing and morose. Due to the flood and bad weather, there could be days, one gets cooped up indoors. I find myself trying these little things to cheer myself up: 1) read humour blogs and cartoons online 2) do some coloring of my "adult-colouring" book. 3) listen to standup comedian's on youtube. 4) have chats with friends and family via skype 5) have large mugs of tea and snacking. 6) myLot and banter. 7) find a good recipe and cook a good meal for me I often feel much better after I have completed at least one of these activities. What do you do to cheer yourself up? Please share your ideas.

I prefer to rid myself of boredom the old fashioned way - I yell at my husband!

@AbbyGreenhill very wise man, never a great time to get into a "discussion" with your wife, when she's yelling at you

You have listed out some very good ideas to get rid of boredom. I don't normally check humour blog and cartoons, though I love humour. However, after reading your suggestion, I have checked some funny cartoons online. Working online on Adult colouring book is also very therapeutic and sometimes, I do it. Besides, if I've time I would be here on mylot or would read something of my interest. Reading is the best bet to me.

Those are some good ways to cheer yourself up. One way of cheering myself up is to watch one of my favorite shows, like The Golden Girls, and it almost always does the trick.

To cheer myself up,, I go to bookstore, reading my fave japan comic, watching old comedy, browsing on youtube, eating fruits. The last one sounds random but I always feel good after eating fruits especially mango, papaya and watermelon

1st, croon. Put some music and sing along with it...then play with kids if possible...they never cease to entertain me. Like yesterday this not yet two girl i played with her cheeks and too my hand to my lips. So the monkey brand thought that is what she is supposed to do so she pinched her own cheeks and took her hands to her lips and looked up at me for approval. What do you do when a kid gives you that kind of innocent look..my heart just comes out ..lol

@Drosophila ...she is a complete entertainment package...she knocks our door and then hides..and plays peek a boo with me...as if I am the kid and she is the grown up. Dances to whatever tune the tv is playing..that too after climbing the center table..I wonder where such innocence goes.

@Drosophila I know High Mountain and Flowing Water. It was great you drank in the almosphere with a cup of tea ,while listened to the GuZheng play .I play the erhu -a Chinese musical instrument with two strings.Do you know the erhu tune "The Moon Reflected in the Second Spring"?

@changjiangzhibin89 Oh wow impressive! I have only heard this tune once. It strikes me as very melancholy. It's difficult to imagine the two strings could produce such a masterpiece.

For this winter, it sure is! Folks closer to the coast had lost their homes due to flood. I guess that's the problem with living on an island. Thanks thanks, music is definitely a key to relaxation. I enjoy a good jazz too :D What instrument do you play? :) When I was in Shanghai I listened to a GuZheng play of High Mountain and Flowing Water, it's the most beautiful melody, with a nice pot of LongJing tea.

for me it's either watching TED talks or listening to music, I am not sure how popular ted talks are but I hope everyone will be able to discover it as there's so many things to learn from it not just to cheer you up but also to make you a better person in so many different ways. anyways i love this part of your message "have chats with friends and family via skype" nothing beats it even music and ted talks combined

@Drosophila you should start, ted speakers covers a lot of topics from various aspects of life for anyone to relate to, I wish I have known about it earlier as it would have been a big help when I was just starting to work, anyways yes getting connected is very important even how busy we are, is your family living in a different country?
