So embarrassing, a debt collector (skip trace) called my neighbor!

What in the world is going on? I'm always having trouble with "so called friends" My old neighbor/friend sorta' asked me if she could use me as a reference at one of those not so good credit places...you can get furniture, TVs and computers. I thought nothing of it and said sure, no problem. It seemed a little weird but harmless. Little did I know... They got this super huge item, I thought it was nice and glad I could help out. About 6 months to a year goes by, she tells me she is moving. OK, still thinking nothing of it, wished them the best and all. Right before the move, she decided to stop speaking to me...It was over a silly appointment that I missed, no big deal right? I figured, give it a couple days and we would be OK...but nope, she would literally ride down our street and turn her head so she didn't have to speak to me. I was like Geez, is it that serious? She wouldn't return any of my texts or calls. They move, I start getting these calls from that place. Asking me if I knew her location and yadda yadda. Of course, I didn't. They kept calling, I blocked number. Then out of the blue, my next door neighbor calls me.We are pretty cool. She told me a company called asking for me and if she knew anything about me....I am totally stuck on stupid. They called her two more times, I took the number and the name of the company. Called the number got (just a recording.) I Googled the name of the company, found out it was a skip trace company, that worked for that particular store. I was livid, beyond mad, frustrated, angry and embarrassed. Apparently my old x neighbor duped them out of their merchandise. I apologized to my neighbor, told her what happened, called that company and ripped em a new one. I wonder if what they did was legal. Later on, I found out how they got her number. My x neighbor, I text, haaa she responded. I told her I was embarrassed and extremely upset. She apologized, but that didn't help me none. She set me up all along! Talk about an all day sucker! See this is why I don't really have friends people are shysters! I am a very nice person, however, I had to step up my game... I don't deal with ppl so much anymore. I feel isolated sometimes but no drama. What makes it so horrible it wasn't my debt. I didn't co-sign, or anything. I had been OK, with her for about 2 years, cook-outs, driving our kids to school, hanging out here and there. I'm amazed at the stunts ppl will pull. I will never ever do that again.

Good call on your part, not co-signing the loan. Imagine the headache and hassle you will be in now. I do not get how people can be like that, you actually feel embarrassed for them.

I am going to guess she did not plan it that way originally, but got in over her head and chose to move to escape it, and not tell you. It still is frustrating and embarrassing when people do things like that.

Yes, but she could have told me! I can handle things I know about. I felt so weird around my neighbor but she is so cool, she was ok and understood.

It is lucky that you did not guarantee her loan.
