Your god is he, she, or it?

Mine is he... I know that sounds gender biased. And considering the fact that we have plenty of goddesses, one of whom even blesses with wealth, and other promises knowledge and third one uses her power to rescue us.... I have still opted to accept my god to be "he" May be it is easier to expect god to do something as a man. If I had considered god to be a lady then may be I would not have had that luxury... I don't know, I did not realize why I always thought of god to be "he". I did not rationalize it until now for sure, and am left wondering if anybody here thinks of god differently.

Well the way I was raised yes God is a He. Though I have this as my foundation, I am open to the many religions of the world, and am acquainted with many Gods and Goddesses of other cultures. So hey, they are all at a big party in the sky. The ones down below I am not interested in.

I hope you don't get mad at me.. but if you are open to lots of religion why not settle for only one, the one who overcome the grave, the one who forgives, the one who authored LOVE, the one who created us all... and His name is Jesus.

I am Catholic, our only God is a HE. As you can see even the Pope and the priest MUST be men. Thinking twice, this almost sounds a bit discriminatory. I wonder when this is going to change.

The Bible was written by men. So what can you expect?

@MALUSE ..Men who hate their mothers? Did that come from the era of caveman? Men going out to hunt, risking their lives, and returning with bruises..women take up comparatively easier jobs.

For us Catholics , our God is a He . In our religion , our God is one - God the father , God the son and the Holy spirit.

@vandana7 well , let's just say i adore Mother Mary . Though , i don't pray the rosary , because i believe in the bible - no repetitive prayers. I love Mama Mary . That's what Catholics call her .

@vandana7 Mary is not God, There is only one God whose role is in three.. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. He does all this role but He is only one. Mary is just a human being who is a perfect example who follow God obediently that is why she was chosen to be an instrument to carry the child of God without blemish but all in purity. If Mary is here with us, she will always say to pray to God and not to her. There is this one occasion in the bible where two disciples of Christ tore their clothes and put ashes in their head when the people start worshiping them when they thought they are God. Read the Christian bible so nothing can confused you. There is only one God who overcome the grave so whoever believes in Him will have eternal life just like Him and that is Jesus. No one can comes to the Father unless through Christ. I hope you will never stop searching until Christ reveal Himself to you.

I mentioned in a comment above, although I'm not catholic i went to a catholic school and had to take a few bible study courses. In these courses we weren't taught beliefs but we were taught the bible as if it were any other work of literature. The catholic bible never addresses God as man nor woman. God is referred to as God with the capital "G". This is because God is a being that is above human and at the same time a reflection of all the humans on earth and so no gender is assigned. That's at least what is written in ink

I am not entirely sure.. I think gender is too limiting for an omnipotent being. I mean even humans find gender limitating.

@vandana7 I actually think, some of the characteristics we naturally assign gender attributes to.. because it's what we can relate to. Like "birth" is normally female, "comfort" is typically female. "Defend, war-like" is typically male. But I suspect things are more complicated than that

@Drosophila , this is the most liberating concept to define an enigmatic entity.

Jesus called God his father so I guess we have always thought of God as a he.

Very difficult question. Now I have to find who my God is! Till now all were...or to say, they were manifestations of one entity. For better explanation to humans.

I am happy with calling my God as IT. Maybe because I am an IT professional Okay, seriously, my concept of God is much different and is theoretical and without any form. So I do not have a He or a She as a God. God to me is Humanity, Brotherhood, doing good, being good.

Now...that is interesting. You seem to be blending god with his qualities...perhaps he is like that. :)

@vandana7 No one knows. None have ever met HIM or HER or IT. All we know is some text that has been passed on to us since generations. And we even do not dare to find out, if such texts were in fact something for real. We always have been blindly following them as the texts from the Lord. And this blind following - we have seen how this gets abused, misused and misinterpreted. This is one reason, I do not believe in those texts.

It is funny I don't believe in god, but I always imagined if I ever met them they would appear to me as a black woman, looking somewhat like Whoopy Goldberg (as she appeared on Star Trek Next Generation as Guinan) but with a voice more like James Earl Jones, powerful but earthly at the same time.

I still do the "he" thing. But at some level, I just think of God as a force, or perhaps the sum of the souls of loved ones who have moved on, or something like that.

My God is always he, I love God, God makes many things for us, whenever I am in deep trouble, I always pray god to help me. At that time in my heart I imagine the God is in the form of he only. I cant imagine the God is in the form of she.
