Hearing About Others

Usually an author's quotes or any news or human-interest story or almost anything that I've heard or read inspires something to blog about but just haven't for quite some time now. Since I've been an active member for more than a a couple of months now on myLot and noticed the community after commenting and responding, so I thought to start. Anyway, today while reading the daily publications, I went on to read several "pieces of advice" and got quite interested in the general word crafting given although it could relate to anyone with that they mentioned in part "hearing a piece of someone else's troubles will help free you somewhat from your own problems." I took particular attention to it because I normally sway from this type of "advice" because I hear and agree that it makes many people even more depressed. Then on the other hand it makes some feel better depending on what sort of trouble is involved. So the other day I went with the latter crowd and read up on a person who went missing from a local ski resort. The person happened to be one of the ski instructors. Since I've not been able to ski at all for years now, the story quickly grabbed my attention. Does hearing a piece of someone else's troubles if you don't know them help free you somewhat from your own?

I don't think that hearing about other people's problems frees me from mine, but I do think that it makes me thankful for the positives I have in my life.

I don't read Astrology. It is to me a waste of time too read advice based on the movement of the stars. I only listen to good and trusted counsel from godly people.

I mentioned that I usually don't but also the post had more to do with a story and how we handle certain things.

yes, very much so, really bad news on people we don't know helps us realize our own worries are often trivial by comparison

No but if I am empathetic I can feel their pain and offer sympathy.

That is true, when you are feeling sorry for yourself or whatever you are going through, it helps to get involved in helping someone else.

Some only feel sorry for themselves while others might feel for themselves but that's alright if they can feel for others.

Actually most of the times, the advice is too general and good. If they start to predict, then that is the time when people start to attack the prediction. A good astrology reading will say something very specific, not too general.

That's why I mentioned community and asked instead of using debate tactics.. All astrology readings are general unless you specifically request a reading. I mentioned this in the post.

I feel like Shannon does, it can make us so grateful for what we have in our lives.

I am also not into astrology, I do't believe the predictions. I always say "what will be, will be"

At times yes more so when a person seems to be going through much and you realize what you have is just a small mountain to climb

Certain things grab my attention, but I usually feel the pain of the person who has problems.

Yes, I will start to see the grand scheme of things and that my problem's just a speck in the ocean.
