ok lets kick this off, is religion bad ?? throughout the life of the planet wars have been fought in the name of religion, blood spilt all in the name of religion to give a few examples crusades back in medieval times Christians trying to take over over religions northern Ireland catholics and prostitants (excuse spelling) 9/11 and upto date IS and the so called muslim orientated attacks also a lot of people cant seem to function without something to believe in yet there is a lot of different gods surely there can be only one would the world not be a more stable place if we just got rid of religion and yeah I know its a small minority that cause these issues but surely in the 21st century is there room for religion

Sounds logical but won't work. If people only practised their religion without trying to convince others and fighting them. As long as they don't molest me, they can believe what they want.

@MALUSE God does not ask any one to convince or fight with anyone....All God asks us to do is to spread the good word...once you here the good word about Jesus Christ it is up to you personally to decide to believe or not....All God wants is for you to know that you have a choice....If you do not know that you have a choice how do you know what you will believe if you do not have all the choices....you may change your mind....but if you do not have all the choices how will you know....

@benby128 Spreading the word is needed, because if you did not here the word you would not know that you have a choice.... But once you tell someone that you have heard and choose differently they should not keep on...or like one religion they should not kill you...Do these people that knock on your door go away when you tell them too..... I have the problem of all kinds of telemarketers calling my home phone all the time..do they have the right to keep calling me when i do not like it. Trying to ram their products down my throat... Every body believes in something without proof. Even the people that do not believe have no proof they are right. They just believe differently....

but surely spreading the word is not needed we have religious people that knock on our doors every week and ram religion down peoples throats surely that shouldn't be right, if people want to believe in something without proof then fine but to have it constantly rammed downed peoples throats and actively trying to change someones beliefs thats wrong

When you really get down to it religion has nothing to do with anything, it's the need that some have to be all powerful and to do that they need to kill anyone who stands in their way. No God would condone the heinous acts of violence and slaughter that human history has seen.

I don't mean to argue @benby128 but from what little anthropologists have been able to learn about the Ancient Native Americans it's doubtful they fought over religion, but sadly there's little left of their history. Yes, Christianity has been very brutal over the centuries as with the burning at the stake because someone had a different opinion on how to worship the same God. It is really more about having power over others

@rebelann yeah defo and all in the name of religion just think its out dated theres also a few scripts in the bible that are totally out dated man shall not live with man there is also another passage that suggests u should cut off hands for theft think every religion has their darker sides surely theres no room for the dark sides in the modern world. and to be honest a healthy debate is always good so argue away :)

that is sort of my point :) for example technology built the planes religion unfortunately flew them into 9/11, same as france massacre that was religiously powered and Christians have been guilty of this in the past aswell so no religion can say we have never done anything evil in the name of religion I jhust think its so out dated

If people really followed what God has told us. Their would be no wars..Their would be no evil....The trouble comes when people think they know better than God.....

@benby128 Believing in something without proof is called faith.. Weather you believe in God. or if you believe their is no God.. you are acting on Faith...You are acting with out having absolute proof... So no matter what you are either grasping to believe in something weather it is God or something else..... The sad part is....If the Believers are right, and God is everything we believe He is...The non Believers are losing everything.... Their is nothing sad about believing in God....Their is nothing sad about needing someone in your life and God is perfect in anyone's life...

yeah for sure there are a lot of people that can't function without believing in something that is without proof I think this is the sad part of the modern society that people are grasping for something or someone to believe in

All religions talk of consequences of our actions but some try to hoodwink god himself. So I think forsaking religion will not make us good - we need deep introspection, look deep within and make a change. We have to realize that we are cut from the same cloth whatever our beliefs are. We suffer more from intolerance, greed, and false pride - siva

Religion isn't bad. People's mentality is. No religion supports violence, cruelty and to put in one word, evil. We humans misconstrue everything according to our needs and desire.

@benby128 Who wrote the Bible??? And who are the preachers???? They were and are human beings. So there you have it.... Being a religious person does not make one void of all the wrongs or gives one the right to preach. One's religion is to God and to humanity. Islam does not promote violence in any shape or form. The IS and other organizations creating havoc on society are just manipulators. They are fulfilling their own motives in the name of Islam while violating every sacred facets of the religion itself.

@benby128 I agree that it is not humanity to treat people badly just because they are gay or to cut hands off for theft. No religion supports that. If you go by what has been written in the religious scriptures (DO NOTE THAT THEY ARE TOO WRITTEN BY A PERSON). So, the said person might have had put his personal view point in them. There is always two sides to a coin. We don't know the whole story behind what prompted such writings or what inspired them. We should believe in good and adhere to humanity which in my opinion is the base of all religions. Nothing else.

well not strictly true had this conversation with a very religious person who I get on really well with, think the term in one of the bibles is man shall not sleep with man theres also another for cutting hands off for theft cant think of the exact words tho, even my very religious mate couldn't explain why the bible is so homophobic and IS etc etc are doing it in the name of islam, just like there are a lot of hate preachers in mosques up and down the country if not the world
