It depends on what carbs you eat. There seems to be three categories, the good complex carbohydrates, the not so good carbohydrates, and the bad simple carbohydrates. For instance, if you eat carbohydrates in vegetables, like in peas, beans, and to a lesser extent, corn, you will lose weight. However,if you eat potatoes, pasta, and bread, you will not and will want to eat more and some people gain weight. The reason is wheat and gluten allergy. Although the topics of wheat allergy are usually about those with a severe one, some people have a slight allergy where they do not get violently ill and have horrible things happening to them, but they tend to put on weight. The simple sugars should be avoided or limited and besides that, give you cavities. So your body may need carbohydrates but I would not eat a couple of slices of white bread with jam and having some Smarties afterwards to get them.
