Random Word Post – café noir

I find a random word by flipping through my 2003 The New Webster’s Concise Dictionary and write a quick – often silly – little post about it. # “café noir – French Black coffee.” I understand that some foreign words or phrases become so common that they just become part of the language, such as grande, or coup d’état. Now, I’m not a coffee drinker, but is there something super special about French black coffee that it needs to be included in an English dictionary?

Interesting - in my country they just refer to it as black coffee! Particlarly curious because latte - milk coffee is "white" in Italian. Maybe they are named that way because in those respective countries it is the most popular coffee type?
