My Feeble Attempts at Limericks

My limerick writing friend Janet @jabo has suggested that perhaps I might want to make a post with some of the limericks I have written as comments on her posts. I decided to give it a go but have added a new one just for luck.
Our friends of the British persuasion
Have been known to grow a carnation
Their love for the rose
Goes down to their toes
You might say it’s even fixation
We have visited the Philadelphia Zoo
With grandsons it's quite a to-do
With very strange noises
And loud growling voices
It was boys not the Kangaroos!!
A wedding is now in the cards
With lines written by the bards
He will tell her I do
She will say love you too
Now really that wasn't so hard
I have noticed the same to be true
No doubt it has happened to you
Your hair is a fright
Your dress is too tight
Your friends want a selfie or two
Her figure it may be quite stout
But he's off to be calling her out
His love life will suffer
He is now quite a duffer
No kisses for you she did shout
The wife of the old man named Mitch
Who really was not such a b..ch
Said good bye old sod
And gave him the nod
She's now made a marital switch
Have you tried your hand at the limerick? Feel free to comment in kind if you like!!

Very good first attempt I would only say that to be a true limerick you need to add a 5th line that rhymes with the first two but well done you!!

@BelleStarr I know I needed that extra line, but this was the very first time that something besides roses are red came to my mind! Maybe next time!

I agree with belle, I think you'd be fine in writing them yourself, Julia.

I read through them one by one
Each one was such great fun
You do have the flare
For words picked with care
A job truly well done.

The boys they are now quite grown
Not quite living off on their own
Only Jack is a child
he's a little bit wild
They now have a much softer tone

@BelleStarr @allknowing @Inlemay
Now here is the thing we should face,
That Mylot is just the right place
To air our rhymes
Show all our lines,
Just like Lany and Bella and Grace.

She is an excellent example of the art of limerick writing. I have dabbled for years but her writing inspired me to try again.

That is too, very funny, Dianne, and shame on you.
. You had me laughing out loud, quietly since the rest of the family is asleep.

@BelleStarr I'm not talented in that department at all. It seems like with you and Jabo, it all comes so easily.

I'll respond in kind later or another day perhaps, as I wasn't going to be on here before work today, and here I am anyway. Yours work fine on a post by itself, but I'm not sure that mine would since I was answering the banter between Janet and Barry. But, maybe I'd still put one up with them included. We'll see. @janetuk did Alex ever stop by to say either way when you asked the question on your post?

I added the first one so that I would have something new, Some of the others are funnier in their comment form I think. I am sure yours will be fun to read again.

@JudyEv
I'm finding I really can't stop
I like to end up on top
I'll do one more rhyme
For good old time
Then maybe I won't be a flop

@BelleStarr I have read some that are really good, I am not among the limerick writers, too difficult in a language that is not your native one.

The first one was a struggle but since then I seem to be able to produce them pretty much at will. I suggest just going for it.

One - or two or three - little limericks and it's like a great epidemic. You must all store them up somehow then someone flicks a switch and they fall like a torrent down a river-bed. I've loved them all! And I'm trying desperately to come up with one of my own.
