It seems as though the deer know when hunting season is over. We haven't seen many deer at our place in a couple of months. The other morning, as I was looking out the back window, I saw this small buck checking out my garden spot.
Hubby tilled the garden yesterday and we will be planting a few things soon. I'm sure once the garden begins to come up, we will be seeing more and more deer.

JudyEv - deer can jump a 10 foot high fence w/o a problem.

@LadyDuck Deer don't mind rain or water, they aren't afraid of much.

I always think that I´d love to see deer where I live, but they belong to the northern hemisphere (and the country, I guess). There are lots of parrot like birds here. They are a menace although they are beautiful.

@sgbrown Wild animals are lovely, but I´d rather watch them from a distance. I have a couple of trees here that give lots of seeds. The parrots come, eat the seeds inside and guess who has to clean up the mess

Plant lavender and marigolds around the perimeter of the garden - deer hate the smell.

@sgbrown It doesn't have to be a solid row- just enough so they can smell it.

@AbbyGreenhill Some has mentioned the marigolds. I will try to plant some around the edge of the garden and see what happens. That is going to be a lot of marigolds!

They are pretty. I plant marigolds all over my garden. It helps keep the rabbits out also.
