Random Word Post – kelp

I find a random word by flipping through my 2003 The New Webster’s Concise Dictionary and write a quick – often silly – little post about it. # “kelp – 1 Any of various large, brown, coarse seaweeds. 2 The ashes of seaweed, used as a source of iodine.” I had heard of getting iodine from seaweed before, but I found it odd that there isn’t a special name for seaweed ash. Why reuse the word kelp? Or does burned seaweed kind of look like living kelp?
