Do people spell your name right....?

Do you have one of those names that no one can seem to spell right? Or a common name that is spelled differently? Well I do and it is always spelled wrong, but today was an all time classic. As some of you know my name is Tiffanie. Not spelled with a "Y" like the common way. Well earlier today I went to a fast food restaurant and I ordered my meal and they asked for my name so they could call it when my order was up. As she handed my receipt my name was spelled "Tiffiny." Now that is a completely new one to me. If my name has ever been spelled that way, then I am clueless. I just giggled as I know that my name is never spelled right, and unless it is on a business form, I never bother to correct them. 90% of the time I will just say Tiff anyway.

"Tiffiny" sounds like just a misspelling from someone who has never had to spell the original. Of course I Am not sure of the original spelling myself. "tiffany" or "Tifany" neither sounds correct. Name is Amber but way back in grade school I had a teacher spell it "Ember" My maiden middle name is spelled incorrectly. My dad spelled it "Lynn" but it supposed to be with an "e" at the end.

@EthanRye It is odd to have your name mispelled on a document like this.

@ScribbledAdNauseum my middle name was also misspelled. I think it was supposed be Page, but the person put Paige. I love that spelling anyway.

@EthanRye It is odd to have it misspelled on a formal document. Usually they ask how to spell it. Unless it was just a typo.

No I don't but when people came to say my surname 9 out 10 don't get it right and I never bother to correct them so I know were you coming from. Maybe the lady didn't or as problems with spelling, I would be hopeless, I would get people names wrong. But I would ask if I didn't know how to spell someone name

Surnames can be even harder. My married name was a pain for people to get. But like you, I am hopeless at spelling names too.

By far I haven't met a person who is dumb enough to misspell Albert. My last name though had been a huge victim of misspellings.

My first name is very common. No one misspells it, but everyone misspells my last name wrong. I won't escape it when I get married either because I know people will misspell it too.

@T_gray I've seen Grey and GRay used as the spelling of the color myself.

@ScribbledAdNauseum They are both correct. Depends on what part of the world you are from really...So I retract my statement. But when people ask if it's spelled like the color...it's still hard to answer them.

Last names can be tough. You would think my last name would be easy but really its not, Gray. People ask if its spelled like the color. The color is spelled Grey. But half of the world doesn't know that the color is spelled that way. Crazy huh?

Spelling with a Y is the most common way it seems. I think I have only meet one other person in my life who has spelled it the same as me.

I never knew your name was Tiffanie, now I know. Hi Tiffanie!! If you told me your name verbally, I would spell it Tiffany. I don't know how she got Tiffiny, I guess she thinks the a / i are the same. I get asked 2 - L's or one L for Michelle.

@T_gray Yay! Nice to meet you again! Michelle is actually my nickname, my real name is a Vietnamese name. I would spell Michelle with 2 L's also. I never met a Michelle with just one L. I have met a Mitchell though.

Well I didn't know your name was Michelle Hi Michelle!!. I would have instinctively spelled it with two L's because every Michelle I know, which is a lot, all spell it with two. One L just doesn't even look right to me anymore.

My first name has always been spelled wrong and like you I never expect it to be right anymore. When people ask my name and I say Marilyn they react like it's a name they've never heard before and have spelled it every which way

Our surname is sometimes pronounced wrongly rather than spelt wrongly. It is 'Evans' and is pronounced to rhyme with 'heavens'. We always know when we are getting a spam call from overseas because they always ask for Mr or Mrs Evens (rhymes with Stevens).

No one gets my last name right because it's so uncommon. They're forgiven. But my first name... I'm often called Debbie or Diane. Sometimes Dennis. Ahem. Missing something?

My wife has one of those names people are forever mispelling. It's become something of a joke with us to see all the creative ways people mispell her name. It's a little annoying, but she's gotten used to it.

Yes oftentimes my name is spelled and pronounced incorrectly! Same happened on my online username on other sites so I use a different username here. I hope no more incorrect mentions haha
