The Barangay Ambato got its name from the word “stony”. The people used to call it Ambato while walking along the pathway to their farm, as described with the stone formation in the area. Eventually, the people migrated in the area and the rest of the nearby barangays. Barangay Ambato is a mountainous area with genteel slopes from the foot of the Sleeping Beauty mountain. It is endowed with natural resources such as timber, rattan, giant ferns, bamboos, wild fruits, orchids, wild animals, marine life, rocks and aggregates. There are several creeks, brooks and springs which are potential sources of irrigation system and drinking water. The total land area of Barangay Ambato is 5,994.44 hectares, bounded in the East: Municipality of Tanudan, North: Bangad, South: Old Tinglayan and West: Poblacion and Sumadel. It divided into three (3) sitios: Ambato, Dalag and Legleg. For the hikers or travelers, it takes approximately 2.5 hours from Tabuk and 2 hours from Bontoc going to the barangay by foot. It is accessible to the main road; a brisk walk from the main road to the barangay is 5 to 10 minutes. It can be observed that the rainfall occurs during the early part of the months of May to November, the topographical condition appears to be the same pattern in the province of Kalinga. On the other hand, the dry season usually experience during the months of December to April. In some occasions, cold-climate prevails from the months of December to February and warm weather for the rest of the year.
