Being a stay at home mom cheaper now days?

A few years ago after I got pregnant with my second child, my husband and I sat down one night to weigh out the pros and cons of me quitting my job to stay at home and raise my two little ones until they got old enough to be in school. After doing some research and seeing the costs of daycare for 2 children who at the time were not potty trained for a 9 hour period each day for 5 days, it came to around $267 a week. This was going to be half of my paycheck each week going to daycare. So, we made the decision for me to quit and stay home. Luckily, my husband has an excellent paying job with great insurance to help get us through right now. I am just thinking, could this be true for a lot of families today?

I know of a number of families who can't afford the daycare so the moms stay home with the children until they start to school.

I stay at home with my children. I originally left an accounting office to stay home with my daughter 13 years ago. I enjoyed every minute of being home with her, but I sometimes I wish I would have continued working for me.

I agree @mommaj, I love staying home with my little ones. With my oldest, I worked two jobs and missed every milestone she had from her first word to her first steps! I have got to see all this with my two youngest. I know it is hard on my hubby sometimes, and I try to let him know how appreciated he is for letting me stay home. I just think of how much money we are really saving each month by doing this!

@thash1979 It's a big difference with two little at the same time because daycare would eat one person's paycheck anyway.

I am a stay-at-home mom of three. I chose to stay at home with them, as it seemed easier and cheaper as well. It does cost a lot to put them in daycare, and we have pretty good services with regards to daycare and such. Sometimes, it is easier.

When raising our 2 sons, I only worked for about 2 and l/2 years. Then, left work to be a full time mom and never regretted it. My husband had an excellent job, so we lived pretty well.
