Spring Already??

United States

We were out combing the local plant nursery the other day. I am in the San Francisco Bay Area. Yesterday's weather broke all kinds of records--High 70's here--if the rain stop now, we will be in trouble in terms of water. This drought seems endless. I think all across the western U.S., the drought is an issue. For so long, it seems that we have had a mindset of an "endless" water supply. Not anymore. This picture I took is one from the nursery we visited,

It must be hard if you're an avid gardener but are hampered by water restrictions.

It is really hard! We use gray water--recycled water from the shower and laundry for a lot of it--I have done a fair amount of research on it--and you can use gray water on fruits and veggies as long as it doesn't touch the part you will eat directly--so we don't use it on lettuces and the like--but it s fine for the lemon and lime trees and the like!

@divalounger When I was growing up on the farm we carted all the bath and laundry water out to the garden and fruit trees. In the height of summer we'd wash the dishes in a basin and put that water on the garden too.

We do take our water so much for granted in New England, but we could have a change just as easily I am sure. In Florida there are some restrictions.

I was listening to NPR the other day and they were taking about rethinking our national policies on water use all over the country--it needs to come--and soon!

We had a beautiful month of December and a warm January, but now it's cold and it rains almost every day.

I think it is a type of magnolia--I was enamoured of the colors and took the shot quickly!

Lovely! But too early. Should be coming a little later in the year, though.

I grew up in Concord and I don't think there ever was a drought during those eighteen years, but a couple of times we had flooding. Your photo is gorgeous! My husband and I were married on March 9th and it was very springy out, no one needed coats or even thought about cold. I haven't lived in California since 1971 so I couldn't say how it is now.

Concord is not too far from me actually-- a bit inland though--I am right on the coast-- Congrats on your upcoming anniversary!
