Bad loss for the Terps

This past Thursday, #6 Maryland was upset by Minnesota by the score of 68-63. Although upsets happen all of the time during the college basketball season, this loss could potentially be devastating for the Terps. This loss is the first time this season the Terrapins have lost two games in a row. Usually, the team has been resilient enough to bounce back from a loss. Therefore, the team should have been ready to play after being trounced earlier in the week by Wisconsin. Even with center Diamond Stone out of the game due to suspension, Maryland should have won this game easily because the Golden Gophers had not won a Big Ten Conference game up to that point.

Once again this game shows how on any given day one team can come out and beat a team it is not expected to beat, and the reasons can be many. Low confidence on the part of the favored team, high motivation on the part of the underdog, one player getting hot with his shooting, another player having an off night. With so many variables, an easy win is never a sure thing these days.
